  1. 1. District heating comes to town : The social shaping of an energy system

    Author : Jane Summerton; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; district heating; municipal technology; energy system; pipeline; large t<:chnical system; actor network; multiorganization; grid; grid-based energy system; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the introduction of district heating in an "ordinary" Swedish town: Mjölby. The process was initiated in 1974 and the decision to build was taken in 1979. In the following years pipelines were laid down and the system was gradually built. In 1987, a permanent heat plant was ready to assume operation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Evaluation of the Performances of Electrically Heated Clothing

    Author : Faming Wang; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; electrically heated vest EHV ; heating efficiency; cold weather clothing; air velocity; clothing combination; thermal resistance; air temperature;

    Abstract : Cold weather garments are necessary for people who are exposed to cold environments (below -5 °C). The weight and bulkiness of such a cold weather clothing ensemble may limit human activity and reduce the productivity. In order to solve these problems, a slim garment with a built-in heating element could be useful. READ MORE

  3. 3. Laser-assisted CVD Fabrication and Characterization of Carbon and Tungsten Microhelices for Microthrusters

    Author : Kirk L. Williams; Johan Köhler; Mats Boman; Joseph Pegna; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering physics; LCVD; Carbon; Tungsten; Microspring; Resistance; Teknisk fysik; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Laser-induced chemical vapor deposition (LCVD) is a process enabling the deposition of solid material from a gas phase in the form of free-standing microstructures with high aspect ratios. The deposition rate, wire diameter, and material properties are sensitive to changes in temperature and gas pressure. READ MORE

  4. 4. Distribution of Ventilation Air and Heat by Buoyancy Forces inside Buildings : An Experimental Study

    Author : Claes Blomqvist; Mats Sandberg; Per Heiselberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; building ventilation; thermal forces; buoyancy; gravity currents; large openings; heating; air quality; forced convection; free convection; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The main task of the ventilation system in a building is to maintain the air quality and (together with the heating or cooling system) the thermal climate at an acceptable level within the building. This means that a sufficient amount of ventilation air at the appropriate temperature and quality must be supplied to satisfy thermal comfort and air quality demands and that this air is distributed to the parts of the building where people reside. 5. 5. Characterization of Microwave Transistors for Robust Receivers and High Efficiency Transmitters

    Author : Mattias Thorsell; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; noise modeling; access resistance; self-heating; AlGaN GaN HEMT; thermal characterization; active load-pull; load modulation;

    Abstract : The next generation of integrated transceiver front-ends needs both robustlow noise amplifiers and high power amplifiers on a single-chip. The AluminiumGallium Nitride / Gallium Nitride (AlGaN/GaN) High Electron MobilityTransistors (HEMT) is a suitable semiconductor technology for this purposedue to its high breakdown voltage and high electron mobility.
