    Abstract : Why and how do progressive social policies aimed at creating a more just and equal society fail? In seeking to increase our understanding of gendered institutional change in general, and gender equality policy failure in particular, this book explores the role of resistance among privileged political elites in accounting for such failures. To shed light on the adaptive nature of resistance and how resisting actors – status quo defenders – are both empowered and circumscribed by their ideational and institutional environment, a resistance stage model is developed. 2. 2. Antibiotic Resistance : Selection in the Presence of Metals and Antimicrobials

    Author : Lisa M. Albrecht; Dan I Andersson; Alex O'Neill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antibiotic resistance; Metals; Antimicrobials; Bacterial evolution; Bacterial genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Abstract : The external environment is complex: Antibiotics, metals and antimicrobials do not exist in isolation but in mixtures. Human activities such as animal husbandry, fertilization of agricultural fields and human medicine release high amounts these compounds into the environment. READ MORE

    Abstract : Antibiotics have saved millions of lives since they came into clinical use during the Second World War in the 1940s. Today, our effective use of antibiotics is under great threat due to emerging antibiotic resistance in bacteria. This thesis addresses the problems of antibiotic resistance from a ”One Health” perspective. READ MORE

  5. 5. Circumventing drug resistance : Studies exploring the expediency of a total cell kill chemoresistance assay

    Author : Bertil Jonsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; drug resistance; drug resistance assay; clinical correlations; cancer; human; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; klinisk farmakologi; Clinical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : Cellular resistance to anti-cancer drugs is considered to be the major cause of treatment failure in clinical practice. The present studies have therefore focused on ways to circumvent resistance as evaluated by an in vitro chemoresistance assay. READ MORE
