  1. 1. Adaptive Resource Management Techniques for High Performance Multi-Core Architectures

    Author : Nadja Holtryd; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cache Partitioning; Resource Management; Bandwidth Partitioning; Performance Isolation; Multi-Core Architectures; Prefetch Throttling;

    Abstract : Reducing the average memory access time is crucial for improving the performance of applications executing on multi-core architectures. With workload consolidation this becomes increasingly challenging due to shared resource contention. Previous works has proposed techniques for partitioning of shared resources (e.g. READ MORE

  2. 2. Resource Allocation under Uncertainty : Applications in Mobile Communications

    Author : Mathias Johansson; Anders Ahlén; Mikael Sternad; Vikram Krishnamurthy; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Signalbehandling; resource allocation; uncertainty; probability theory as logic; scheduling; multiuser diversity; Jaynes; maximum entropy; Bayesian probability theory; Signalbehandling; Signal processing; Signalbehandling; Signal Processing; signalbehandling;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with scheduling the use of resources, or allocating resources, so as to meet future demands for the entities produced by the resources. We consider applications in mobile communications such as scheduling users' transmissions so that the amount of transmitted information is maximized, and scenarios in the manufacturing industry where the task is to distribute work among production units so as to minimize the number of missed orders. 3. 3. Efficient Partitioning of Dynamic Structured Grid Hierarchies

    Author : Johan Steensland; Michael Thuné; Jarmo Rantakokko; Charles Norton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; scientific computing; partitioning; structured grids; adaptive mesh refinement; dynamic load balancing; Beräkningsvetenskap; Scientific Computing;

    Abstract : This thesis aims at decreasing execution time for large-scale structured adaptive mesh refinement (SAMR) applications executing on general parallel computers. The key contributions are (1) A conceptual dynamically adaptive meta-partitioner able to select and configure an appropriate partitioning technique, based on application and computer state, and (2) A characterization of new and existing domain-based partitioners, enabling a mapping from application and computer state onto appropriate partitioners, and (3) Sketched scalable solutions, expressed in terms of natural regions and expert algorithms, for the problem to efficiently partition large-scale SAMR applications with deep grid hierarchies executing on general parallel computers, and (4) A software partitioning tool Nature+Fable, implementing the greater parts of these sketched scalable solutions and engineered as part of the meta-partitioner. 4. 4. Life-history traits and population differentiation in a clonal plant: implications for establishment, persistence and weediness

    Author : Johanna Eneström; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; weediness; Clonal plant; resource sharing; resource storage; partitioning of genetic variation; seedling development; seed recruitment; Aegopodium podagraria;

    Abstract : Clonality is wide-spread among plants, and clonal plants dominate many habitats and include many highly invasive species. Clonal growth incurs both advantages and costs and clonal plants often have reduced sexual reproduction compared to non-clonal plants which could be expected to lower genetic variation and hence evolutionary potential.
