  1. 16. On the biology of premenstrual dysphoria and panic disorder

    Author : Hoi-Por Ho; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serotonin; reuptake inhibitor; estrogen; progesterone; irritability; respiration; estrus cycle; polymorphism; resident intruder model;

    Abstract : Premenstrual dysphoria (PMD) afflicts 7% of all women of fertile age, and is characterized by symptoms such as irritability, sadness, and mood swings, appearing regularly before menstruation, and being of such severity that they markedly reduce quality of life. The symptoms are dependent of sex steroids, and seem to be under the influence of serotonin, since they respond to treatment with serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs). READ MORE

  2. 17. Thermal plasticity and limitations in tropical trees

    Author : Maria Wittemann; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acclimation; African tropical forest; chlorophyll fluorescence; climate change; drought; hydraulic; montane; photosynthesis; respiration; successional strategies; temperature; tropical trees; warming;

    Abstract : Tropical forests are the most carbon dense and biodiverse terrestrial biome on earth. In a time of global warming and biodiversity crisis, their preservation must be of high priority. At the same time, they likely operate close to their thermal limits because of a historically and seasonally stable environment. READ MORE

  3. 18. Islet insulin secretory patterns in diabetes and the role of UCP2

    Author : Jian-Man Lin; Valdemar Grill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; type 1 diabetes; type 2 diabetes; NOD; GK; congenes; KKAy; human; islet; glucose; insulin release; oscillation; frequency; amplitude; oxidation; respiration; UCP2; western blot; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : During development of type 1 and type 2 diabetes plasma insulin patterns are altered. Since the islet insulin release pattern has been implicated in this development, insulin secretion from single islets was studied and linked to the islet protein levels of uncoupling protein-2 (UCP2). 4. 19. Modeling the Seasonality of Carbon, Evapotranspiration and Heat Processes for Cold Climate Conditions

    Author : Sihong Wu; Per-Erik Jansson; Andreas Ibröm; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; net ecosystem exchange NEE ; sensible and latent heat fluxes; photosynthesis; respiration; nitrogen turnover; Scots pine forest; bare soil; cold climate; soil physical characteristics; CoupModel; GLUE; Other civil engineering and architecture; Övrig samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : The productivity of agricultural and forest ecosystems in regions at higher latitudes is to a large extent governed by low temperature and moisture conditions. Environmental conditions are acting both above- and below-ground and regulating carbon fluxes and evapotranspiration. READ MORE

  5. 20. Proton pathways in energy conversion : K-pathway analogs in O2- and NO-reductases

    Author : Nathalie Gonska; Pia Ädelroth; Alessandro Giuffré; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heme-copper oxidase; cytochrome c oxidase; membrane protein; respiration; electron transfer; proton transfer; redox reaction; metalloprotein; non-heme iron; cytochrome ba3; flow-flash; carbon monoxide; liposome; respiratory control ratio; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Oxygen and nitric oxide reductases are enzymes found in aerobic and anaerobic respiration, respectively. Both enzyme groups belong to the superfamily of Heme-Copper Oxidases, which is further divided into several subgroups: oxygen-reducing enzymes into A-, B- and C-type and nitric oxide reductases into qNORs and cNORs.
