  1. 1. Mechanistic Insights in the Biogenesis and Function of the Respiratory Chain

    Author : Hannah Dawitz; Martin Ott; Cristina Ugalde; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; respiratory chain; bc1 complex; cytochrome c oxidase; Cbp3; Rcf1; Rcf2; respiratory supercomplexes; biogenesis; mitochondria; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Mitochondria fulfill a plethora of functions, including harboring metabolic pathways and converting energy stored in metabolites into ATP, the common energy source of the cell. This last function is performed by the oxidative phosphorylation system, consisting of the respiratory chain and the ATP synthase. READ MORE

  2. 2. Structural characterisation of mitochondrial macromolecular complexes using cryo-EM : Mitoribosome biogenesis and respiratory chain supercomplex

    Author : Sorbhi Rathore; Martin Ott; Daniel Wilson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mitochondria; mitoribosome biogenesis; mitoribosome assembly factors; yeast respiratory supercomplexes; single particle electron cryo-microscopy; cryo-EM sample preparation; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Mitochondria, popularly known as powerhouse of the cell, contain specialised mitoribosomes that synthesise essential membrane proteins. These essential proteins are required to form enzyme complexes, which carry out the process of oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). READ MORE

  3. 3. Early steps in the biogenesis of the bc1 complex in yeast mitochondria : The role of the Cbp3-Cbp6 complex in cytochrome b synthesis and assembly

    Author : Steffi Gruschke; Martin Ott; Dennis Winge; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mitochondria; respiratory chain assembly; bc1 complex; mitochondrial gene expression; translational regulation; hemylation; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : The inner membrane of mitochondria harbors the complexes of the respiratory chain and the ATP synthase, which perform the key metabolic process oxidative phosphorylation. These complexes are composed of subunits from two different genetic origins: the majority of constituents is synthesized on cytosolic ribosomes and imported into mitochondria, but a handful of proteins, which represent core catalytic subunits, are encoded in the organellar DNA and translated on mitochondrial ribosomes. 4. 4. Biogenesis of the bc1 complex in mitochondria

    Author : Katharina Stephan; Martin Ott; Daniel Daley; Erika Fernandez-Vizarra; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Respiratory chain; bc1 complex assembly; mitochondrial protein biogenesis; molecular biology; yeast; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Mitochondria perform a variety of tasks, but the function they are most prominent for is the energy conversion to form ATP, the universal energy equivalent of the cell. The majority of this ATP is created by the oxidative phosphorylation system, consisting of the respiratory chain and the ATP synthase. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effect of experimental complex III deficiency on respiratory chain assembly and function

    Author : Mina Davoudi; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The assembly of respiratory chain complexes in the mitochondrial inner membrane requires specific factors. Once assembled to form a mature functional complex, complex III (CIII) is a dimer consisting of two monomers, each with eleven subunits. READ MORE
