  1. 1. Aspects of infection and leukemia in Rwanda

    Author : Belson Rugwizangoga; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; interferon-λ; respiratory infection; nucleotide polymorphism; acute leukemia; Rwanda; Epstein-Barr virus; malaria;

    Abstract : A first part of this thesis addressed the potential impact of variants of genes encoding interferon-λ4, which is a cytokine that participates in protection against pathogens at epithelial surfaces, for the resolution of upper respiratory tract infections in Rwandan children. In a study of 480 subjects (≤5 years old), where follow-up samples were available from 161 subjects, it was observed that IFNL4 genotypes were associated with clearance of RNA viruses from upper airways. 2. 2. On the epidemiology, clinical presentation and transmission of respiratory viral infections

    Author : Nicklas Sundell; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; respiratory viruses; measles; influenza; epidemiology; meteorological factors; real-time PCR; viral transmission; lower respiratory tract infection;

    Abstract : Respiratory viral infections encompass a large heterogenous group of pathogens that constitute a major burden of disease globally. The various routes of transmission including airborne spread make them difficult to control. READ MORE

  3. 3. On the Diagnosis and Management of Viral Respiratory Infections

    Author : Robin Brittain-Long; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Respiratory virus; Respiratory tract infection; Real-time PCR; Multiplex PCR; Antibiotic use;

    Abstract : Acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs), are the most common infections in man, and represent a major global health burden. Viruses, most often causing a mild and self-limiting disease, yet with substantial morbidity and high costs for society, mainly cause upper respiratory tract infections. READ MORE

  4. 4. Respiratory tract infections in children with congenital heart disease

    Author : Elin Granbom; Estelle Naumburg; Uwe Ewald; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Respiratory tract infection; Respiratory syncytial virus; Congenital heart disease; CHD; RSV; Palivizumab; Prophylax; Pediatrics; pediatrik;

    Abstract : Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infection is common among young children. Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is a risk factor of severe illness and hospitalization. READ MORE

  5. 5. The role of non-coding single-stranded oligonucleotides on Respiratory syncytial virus infection

    Author : Sandra Axberg Pålsson; Anna-Lena Spetz; Annika Karlsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Respiratory syncytial virus RSV ; single-stranded oligonucleotide ssON ; small non-coding RNA sncRNA ; nucleolin; virus infection; antiviral; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is an enveloped RNA virus of the Pneumoviridae family. RSV is reported to infect host cells by receptor-mediated endocytosis, also called clathrin-dependent endocytosis. Many reports indicate that the virus utilizes the host receptor nucleolin for entry.
