1. Peakflow response of stream networks : implications of physical descriptions of streams and temporal change
Abstract : Through distributed stream network routing, it has quantitatively been shown that the relationship between flow travel time and discharge varies strongly nonlinearly with stream stage and with catchment-specific properties.Physically derived distributions of water travel times through a stream network were successfully used to parameterise the streamflow response function of a compartmental hydrological model. 2. Fatigue Assessment and Extreme Response Prediction of Ship Structures
Abstract : In this thesis, a simplified narrow-band approximation model is proposed to estimate fatigue damage of ship structures, and an efficient method for extreme response predictions is also developed using upcrossing spectrums of ship responses. The proposed fatigue model includes two main parameters, significant stress range hs and zero upcrossing frequency fz. READ MORE

3. Aspects of regular long-term endurance exercise in adolescents, with focus on cardiac size and function, hormones, and the immune system
Abstract : The long-term effects of starting high-intensity training at younger ages are largely unknown. The present studies focused on adolescents who had performed regular endurance exercise for several years at an elite level and compared those subjects with a control group of adolescents of similar age and sex who had not engaged in regular exercise. 4. Dynamic response reconstruction using passive components
Abstract : In many testing applications within the field of structural dynamics, such as noise and vibration harshness, rattle and squeak, or durability testing in the automotive and truck industries, large hydraulic or electromagnetic actuators are used to excite the tested structure. Such actuators are mounted in the laboratory in a fixed configuration referred to here as a test rig. READ MORE

5. The effects of Nordic berries on cognition and brain function : Connections with gut microbiota composition and cardiometabolic risk markers
Abstract : An aging population is associated with an increased prevalence of cognitive decline and related diseases. Gradual cognitive decline is a natural feature of aging, but may also develop into a more severe loss of cognitive function, manifesting as mild cognitive impairment or severe cognitive disease.
