21. Subglottic stenosis : Diagnostics, endoscopic treatment and follow-up
Abstract : Subglottic stenosis (SGS) is a rare condition of upper airway obstruction transforming tracheal mucosa below the vocal folds into scar tissue. It is primarily caused by laryngotracheal trauma and infrequent autoimmune conditions ofsystemic inflammation. READ MORE

22. Transcriptome analysis on in vivo derived laser microbeam microdissected cells. Analysis of smooth muscle transcriptomes
Abstract : Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) are found in the respiratory, urogenital, circulatory and digestive systems. They provide contractility and structural support for those organs and perform multiple physiological important functions, such as modulation of blood pressure, regulation of airway resistance, and control of gastrointestinal and genitourinary motility. 23. Dosimetry Studies of Different Radiotherapy Applications using Monte Carlo Radiation Transport Calculations
Abstract : Developing radiation delivery systems for optimisation of absorbed dose to the target without normal tissue toxicity requires advanced calculations for transport of radiation. In this thesis absorbed dose and fluence in different radiotherapy applications were calculated by using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. READ MORE

24. Genetic studies on cardiovascular disease - identification of novel drug targets
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to identify novel potential drug targets of cardiovascular disease with a focus on G-protein coupled receptors. We identified a common genetic variant of the ATP receptor P2Y11, where an alanine is substituted with a threonine at position 87 of the P2Y11 receptor that increases the risk of developing acute myocardial infarction. 25. Growth factors and their interaction in the regulation of vascular cells : with special reference to diabetes
Abstract : Proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells plays an important role in the development of atherosclerosis and in restenosis following balloon angioplasty. This study focuses on growth factors associated with diabetic vascular disease and their interaction in the regulation of vascular smooth muscle cell growth. READ MORE
