  1. 1. Retinal Transplants: Growth Differentiation Integration Organization and Survival

    Author : Rajesh Kumar Sharma; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; retinal degeneration; Retinal transplants; retinal development; treatment; connections; proliferation; survival; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : The goal of the study was to get a better understanding of factors controlling the growth, differen-tia-tion, integration, organization and survival of retinal transplants, with the long-term view of eventually developing retinal transplantation into a clinically useful procedure for treating degenerative retinal disorders such as retinitis pigmentosa. Embryonic day 15 rabbit retinas were transplanted into adult rabbit eyes and were allowed to survive for various times. READ MORE

  2. 2. Experimental porcine models of retinal ischemia

    Author : Håkan Morén; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; retinal ischemia; animal model; multifocal electroretinography; intraarterial coiling; retinal vasculature;

    Abstract : Retinal ischaemia resulting from e.g. diabetes, vein thrombosis or arterial occlusion, is one of the major causes of visual impairment and blindness. Although new methods of treatment are being developed, there is still a need for more effective pharmacological forms of treatment. READ MORE

  3. 3. Stem cell function and organ development : analysis of Lhx2 function in hematopoietic stem cells and eye development

    Author : Lina Dahl; Leif Carlsson; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lhx2; hematopoietic system; hematopoietic stem cell; progenitor; embryonic stem cell; embryoid body; eye development; forebrain; eye field transcription factor; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; molecular medicine  genetics and pathology ;

    Abstract : When a multicellular organism suffers damages to tissues/organs it heals itself by either substituting the lost cellular matrix by scar formation or by regenerating the lost tissue. Regeneration likely occurs by a recapitulation of the developmental process that formed the organ. READ MORE

  4. 4. Development of photoreceptor organs in teleosts, Molecular and immunocytochemical studies

    Author : Johan Forsell; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fish; opsin; extraretinal; retina; Development; pineal organ; Zoology; Zoologi;

    Abstract : Many vertebrate animals are known to have multiple sites for photoreception that are not involved in vision. Extraretinal photoreception is indicated to play a crucial role in early development, physiology and behavior, as well as in later biological processes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Retinal morphology and function in prematurely-born children at school age

    Author : Hanna Åkerblom; Gerd Holmström; Anne Fulton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Retinopathy of prematurity; Prematurity; Retinal development; OCT; Fullfield ERG; Multifocal ERG; Ophtalmology; Oftalmiatrik;

    Abstract : Preterm birth may lead to complications during the neonatal period that can cause visual dysfunctions. Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and neurological complications are well known reasons for visual dysfunctions, but preterm children with no or only mild ROP and no evident neurological problems may also be affected visually when they grow up.
