  1. 16. Retinal ganglion cell examination with Optical Coherence Tomography reflects physiological and pathological changes in the eye and the brain

    Author : Abbas Al-Hawasi; Neil Lagali; Yumin Link; Per Fagerholm; Per Söderberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Retinal ganglion cell; Retinal nerve fiber layer; Optical Coherence Tomography;

    Abstract : The retinal ganglion cell is situated in the inner retina and its axons, composing the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), leave the eye to form the optic nerve. These cells develop embryologically from the forebrain and later during development re-establish connections with different parts of the brain serving different purposes. READ MORE

  3. 18. Retinal Vein Occlusion A clinical study of electrophysiology, certain prognostic factors and treatment

    Author : Charlotte Lindberg; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi; multifocal electroretinography vitrectomy; electroretinography; factor V Leiden; retinal vein occlusion; prognostic factors;

    Abstract : The influence of the factor V Leiden mutation on the development of neovascular complications in central retinal vein occlusion was studied. The presence of the mutation was found to enhance the risk of developing neovascular complications almost threefold compared to in patients without the mutation. READ MORE

  4. 19. Intracellular mechanisms in rd1 mouse retinal degeneration

    Author : Leif Johnson; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; Neuroprotection; Photoreceptor; Retinitis Pigmentosa; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is an inherited disorder and the leading cause of visual impairment in the working age population. It is caused by a number of different genetic mutations, all of which cause the rod photoreceptors to degenerate. As the rods become few in numbers, the cones will also begin to die, resulting in total blindness. READ MORE

  5. 20. Keeping up with retinal photoreceptors and horizontal cells : Labelling and mapping of cells in the normal and diseased embryonic chicken retina

    Author : Maria Blixt; Finn Hallböök; Maria Valeria Canto-Soler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chicken; electroporation; horizontal cells; photoreceptors; retina; piggyBac;

    Abstract : The childhood eye cancer retinoblastoma originates from the retina and its development is initiated while the foetus is in the uterus. Retinoblastoma has a reported incidence of 1 in 15-18 000 live births, and approximately 90% of all patients are diagnosed before the age of 5. READ MORE
