  1. 36. Eco-immunological studies of innate immunity in Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos)

    Author : Anu S. Helin; Jonas Waldenström; Edwin Veldhuizen; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Avian β-defensins AvBDs ; Avian gene expression; Host-pathogen interactions; Innate immunity; Mallard Anas platyrhynchos ; Myxovirus resistance gene Mx ; Retinoic acid inducible gene 1 RIG-I ; Avian β-defensins AvBD ; Genuttryck; Gräsand Anas platyrhynchos ; Immunförsvar; Immungener; Myxovirus resistant gene Mx ; Patogen; Retinoic acid inducible gene 1 RIG-I ; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Abstract : This thesis comprises two sections, both of which explore eco-immunology of the innate immune system of mallards (Anas platyrhynchos). The innate immune system serves a pivotal role as the first line of defense against invading pathogens, and is comprised of physical and chemical barriers. READ MORE

  2. 37. In vitro Studies of Genodermatoses Affecting Cytoskeletal Integrity and Lipid Processing in Human Epidermis : Pathogenic Mechanisms and Effects of Retinoid Therapy

    Author : Hao Li; Hans Törmä; Anders Vahlquist; Mikael Ivarsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Congenital Ichthyosiform Erythroderma; Epidermolytic Hyperkeratosis; Ceramides; Keratins; Retinoids; Molecular Probe Techniques; Transglutaminases; Lipoxygenases; Fatty Acid Transporter Proteins; Keratinocytes; Epidermis; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Autosomal dominant epidermolytic ichthyosis (EI) is a rare disease characterized by intra-epidermal blistering due to mutations in either of two keratin genes, KRT1 and KRT10, expressed by suprabasal keratinocytes. Autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis (ARCI) is a non-blistering, hyperkeratotic disease caused by mutations in one of the following genes: ABCA12, ALOX12B, ALOXE3, TGM1, CYP4F22, NIPAL4 and SLC27A4, which are all essential for skin barrier homeostasis. 3. 38. Retinoids and vitamin D in skin and parathyroid glands

    Author : Liu Wei; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; all-trans retinoic acid 9-cis retinoic acid vitamin A. vitamin D. CRBP. CRABP. RAR. RXR. parathyroid hormone. calcium receptor; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : Vitamin D3 (VitD3) and retinoids are important factors involved in differentiation and proliferation in many cell systems. Their effects in skin, where retinoids and vitamin D are known to be crucially involved in keratinocyte differentiation and function,, and in the parathyroid, the overall regulatory organ in calcium homeostasis were studied. 4. 39. Disruption of vitamin A metabolism by dioxin

    Author : Pi Högberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : TCDD; dioxin; vitamin A; retinoic acid; cellular retinol-binding protein; bone;

    Abstract : Vitamin A (retinoids) is a nutrient that plays a central role in development and remains essential for cell growth and differentiation throughout life. Dioxins are polychlorinated organic pollutants known to negatively affect the storage and body clearance of retinoids. READ MORE

  5. 40. Strategies to optimize T cell-based cancer immunotherapy

    Author : Simona Vertuani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MHC class 1; CTL; DNA vaccine; HER-2; Retinoic acid;

    Abstract : Remarkable progress has been made in the field of tumor immunology in the past decade but active immunotherapy is not yet an established treatment modality. Tumor associated antigens (TAAs) presented in the form of peptides in association with MHC class 1 can be recognized by T cells and represent major targets of immunotherapy strategies to treat cancer patients.
