  1. 1. The chloroplast talks : Insights into the language of the chloroplast in Arabidopsis

    Author : Peter Kindgren; Åsa Strand; Barry Pogson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; chloroplast; photosynthesis; retrograde communication; Mg-ProtoIX; oxidative stress; gene expression; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Physiological Botany; fysiologisk botanik;

    Abstract : The chloroplast originates from an endosymbiotic event 1.5 billion years ago, when a free living photosynthetic bacteria was engulfed by a eukaryotic host. The chloroplastic genome has through evolution lost many genes to the nuclear genome of the host. READ MORE

  2. 2. Coordination of two different genomes in response to light and stress

    Author : Louise Norén Lindbäck; Åsa Strand; Antony Dodd; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; chloroplast; cellular communication; tetrapyrrole; circadian clock; oxidative stress; light signalling; gene regulation; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : About 1.5 billion years ago, a photosynthetic bacteria was engulfed by a eukaryotic cell which initiated a symbiotic relationship and the evolution of the chloroplast as we know it today. The chloroplast has retained its own genome encoding for a number of proteins required for the function of the chloroplast. READ MORE

  3. 3. On healing after periapical surgery and different retrograde root-filling materials. A clinical and histological study

    Author : Dan-Åke Wälivaara; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : periapical surgery; ultrasonic preparation; IRM; thermoplasticized gutta-percha; Super-EBA; mineral trioxide aggregate; root-filling status; lesion size; lesion type;

    Abstract : Aims: The outcome from conventional endodontic therapy does not always result in a healing of the periapical area, thus leaving a remaining lesion with or without symptoms. The primary treatment alternative is a revision of the orthograde root-filling if applicable. A second treatment alternative might be a periapical surgery procedure. READ MORE

  4. 4. Neocortical layer 2/3 microcircuits

    Author : Carl Holmgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Neocortical microcircuit; layer 2 3; pyramidal cell; FSN interneuron; retrograde signaling; VGLUT3; spike-timing dependent plasticity; LTP; LTD.;

    Abstract : Pairs of interconnected neurons form elementary information processing units within neocortical microcircuits. Pyramidal cells within these microcircuits receive synaptic input, both from their connected partners, and from more distant cortical and sub-cortical regions. Consequently, they require a means to identify relevant synaptic signals. READ MORE

  5. 5. Propofol changes the cytoskeletal function in neurons : An experimental study in cortical cultures

    Author : Dean Turina; Christina Eintrei; Karin Björnström Karlsson; Lindahl Sten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Propofol; cytoskeleton;

    Abstract : Every day, general anaesthetics are given to a large number of patients around the world but the cellular mechanisms of how anaesthetics act are still not clear. General anaesthetics cause the intended unconsciousness, amnesia and immobility in patients, but also side effects such as a decrease in mean arterial pressure and arrhythmia, both of which contribute to complications such as heart damage and stroke.
