22. Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in rheumatoid arthritis : aspects of pathogenesis and risk
Abstract : Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have an increased prevalence and severity of atherosclerosis, and a corresponding increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The mechanisms causing this are not well elucidated, but both traditional cardiovascular risk factors and RA-associated factors have been associated with atherosclerosis and increased risk of cardiovascular events in patients with RA. Low aerobic capacity is one of the strongest independent risk factors for CVD and all-cause mortality in the general population. READ MORE

24. On the etiology and pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus with special reference to environmental factors
Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease in which environmental factors interact with genetic factors in the development of the disease process and evolution of clinical manifestations. In this thesis both exogenous factors and host factors were investigated, as well as important immunopathological aspects including involvement of immune complex (IC), the complement system and interferon-alpha (IFN-α).
