16. Initiation of bacteriophage P2 rolling circle replication
Abstract : Viruses are very simple entities. In its most simple form, the virus consists of a protein shell containing genetic material. To propagate the virus needs a host to parasitize, in which it can replicate its genetic material and assembly new virus particles. Viruses that parasitize bacteria are termed bacteriophages. 17. Whole Genome Sequencing of Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli
Abstract : Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) infections are a common cause of diarrhea but little is known about the evolution and genomic composition of ETEC. The main aim of this thesis was to generate a large collection of whole genome sequenced ETEC isolates to study the evolution of such bacteria on a global level and to search for novel colonization factors (CFs) using both classical and cutting-edge genomic techniques. 18. UDP-sugar metabolizing pyrophosphorylases in plants : formation of precursors for essential glycosylation-reactions
Abstract : UDP-sugar metabolizing pyrophosphorylases provide the primary mechanism for de novo synthesis of UDP-sugars, which can then be used for myriads of glycosyltranferase reactions, producing cell wall carbohydrates, sucrose, glycoproteins and glycolipids, as well as many other glycosylated compounds. The pyrophosphorylases can be divided into three families: UDP-Glc pyrophosphorylase (UGPase), UDP-sugar pyrophosphorylase (USPase) and UDP-N-acety lglucosamine pyrophosphorylase (UAGPase), which can be discriminated both by differences in accepted substrate range and amino acid sequences. 19. Identification of Arthritis Regulating Genes in Rats
Abstract : The immune response is designed to protect the body from harmful microbial invasions. However, when the immune system attacks itself instead, an autoimmune reaction starts that damage our own cells, tissues and organs. READ MORE

20. Hybridization and Evolution in the Genus Pinus
Abstract : Gene flow and hybridization are pervasive in nature, and can lead to different evolutionary outcomes. They can either accelerate divergence and promote speciation or reverse differentiation. The process of divergence and speciation are strongly influenced by both neutral and selective forces.
