  1. 6. Evaluation of reverse transcriptase assay for viral load monitoring

    Author : Gary E Corrigan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Retaining an active reverse transcriptase (RT) enzyme is a fundamental requirement for all retroviruses to replicate. Bearing in mind that HIV has a very high propensity to mutate measuring RT activity to determine the level of retroviral replication has the capacity to eliminate problems associated with divergence, as the virus at all costs must retain an active RT enzyme. 2. 7. Retroviral and related nucleic acid processing enzymes expression and detection : Applications on clinical studies of HIV and HERVs

    Author : Raymond Awad; Amnon Hizi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Reverse transcriptase; endogenous retrovirus; deoxycytidine kinase; HIV; HERVS; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : Reverse transcriptase (RT), the expression and detection of the enzyme marking the family Retroviridae, has been studied. A new RT activity assay adapted to 96-well microtitre plates is described. It uses a non- radioactive bromodeoxyuridine triphosphate (BrdUTP) substrate in a solid phase format. The assay was highly sensitive. READ MORE

  3. 8. Repetitive DNA in search of a function - a study of telomeric and centromeric sequences in Chironomus

    Author : Casimiro Castillejo-Lopez; Udo Häckers grupp Utvecklingsbiologi i invertebrater; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chironomus; CENP-B box; mobile elements; reverse transcriptase; gene conversion; satellite; repetitive DNA; Telomere; centromere; Genetics; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Abstract : Repetitive DNA is quantitatively the main component of telomeres and centromeres, structures responsible for maintenance of the eukaryotic chromosome. The telomere is the specialized nucleoprotein complex that terminates linear chromosomes. READ MORE

  4. 9. Human Endogenous Retroviruses: Studies on Transcriptional Activity and Genetic Variability

    Author : Patrik Medstrand; Malmö Klinisk virologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; virology; bacteriology; HERVs; Human endogenous retrovirus sequences; reverse transcriptase; Microbiology; differential RNA expression.; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) are believed to be remains of germ-line infections that have become fixed in the population. They are involved in pathophysiological conditions, in mechanisms leading to infection protection, and directly in the physiology of the organism by participating in the regulation of cellular gene expression. 5. 10. Towards a New Generation of Anti-HIV Drugs : Interaction Kinetic Analysis of Enzyme Inhibitors Using SPR-biosensors

    Author : Malin Elinder; U. Helena Danielson; Maurizio Botta; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; drug discovery; fragment; screening; reverse transcriptase; microbicides; interaction analysis; NNRTIs; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : As of today, there are 25 drugs approved for the treatment of HIV and AIDS. Nevertheless, HIV continues to infect and kill millions of people every year. Despite intensive research efforts, both a vaccine and a cure remain elusive and the long term efficacy of existing drugs is limited by the development of resistant HIV strains. READ MORE
