1. Interaction of some molecules with complex surfaces
Abstract : This thesis investigates the adsorption, decomposition and reactions of small molecules on flat, oxidised and vicinal surfaces of late transition metals. The main technique for these studies is high resolution core level spectroscopy (HRCLS). All the studies presented in the thesis are performed in Ultra High Vacuum (UHV). READ MORE

2. Oxidation of some Late Transition Metal Surfaces: Structural Studies from UHV to Atmospheric Pressure
Abstract : The oxidation of Rh, Pd and Pt is studied under conditions ranging from ultra high vacuum to ambient pressures, with emphasis on a complete understanding of the geometry of the various oxide structures found. The investigations use a combination of various experimental methods, including high resolution core level spectroscopy, low energy electron diffraction, surface x-ray diffraction and scanning tunneling microscopy, as well as density functional theory calculations. 3. Adsorption of Molecules on Metal Surfaces Studied by High Resolution Core Level Photoemission
Abstract : Various aspects of the adsorption of molecules on metal surfaces have been studied making use of different properties of high resolution core level photoemission. A thorough investigation has been performed of the ordering and the site occupancy of CO overlayers on Rh(111). CO has been shown to adsorb in on-top and three-fold-hollow sites. READ MORE

4. Molecular overlayers on homogeneous and heterogeneous metal surfaces studied by core-level photoemission
Abstract : The main topic of this thesis is the investigation of small molecules adsorbed on metal surfaces by means of core-level photoemission spectroscopy. The thesis consists of three parts; The first group of papers concerns the effects of internal molecular vibrations on the core-level photoemission spectra. READ MORE

5. Characterization and Functionalization of 2D Overlayers Adsorbed on Transition Metals
Abstract : Two-dimensional layered materials, namely monolayer hexagonal boron nitride and graphene were grown by CVD on various transition metals. The physical and chemical properties of these systems were characterized systematically using synchrotron-based spectroscopic techniques, scanning tunneling microscopy and low energy electron diffraction.
