    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune inflammatory disease that leads to degradation of cartilage and bone mainly in peripheral joints. In collagen-induced arthritis (CIA), a mouse model for RA, activation of autoimmune CD4+ T cells depends on a molecular recognition system where T-cell receptors (TCRs) recognize a complex between the class II MHC Aq protein and CII259-273, a glycopeptide epitope from type II collagen (CII). Abstract : Biologic therapies have revolutionized the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, a common chronic inflammatory disease, mainly characterized by the chronic inflammation of the joints. The activity and progression of the disease are highly variable, both between subjects and between the successive assessments for the same subject. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genetic markers in rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Solbritt Rantapää Dahlqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; family history; genetic marker; HLA B27; HLA DR4; properdin factor B; C3 complement; -antitrypsin; haptoglobin; transferrin;

    Abstract : Genetic as well as environmental factors are believed to be of importance in the etiology of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). There are a number of previous studies of genetic markers in RA, but so far no genetic linkage and only a few associations have been found. Of the associations only one (with the HLA antigen DR4) appears to be well documented. READ MORE
