  1. 1. Tools for Control System Design : Stratification of Matrix Pairs and Periodic Riccati Differential Equation Solvers

    Author : Stefan Johansson; Bo Kågström; Erik Elmroth; Paul Van Dooren; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; control system design; stratification; controllability; observability; matrix pair; canonical forms; linear quadratic regulator; periodic systems; periodic Riccati differential equation; Computer science; Datavetenskap; Numerical Analysis; numerisk analys;

    Abstract : Modern control theory is today an interdisciplinary area of research. Just as much as this can be problematic, it also provides a rich research environment where practice and theory meet. This Thesis is conducted in the borderline between computing science (numerical analysis) and applied control theory. READ MORE

  2. 2. Optimization and Estimation of Solutions of Riccati Equations

    Author : Kibret Sigstam; Sten Kaijser; Arkadi Ponossov; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical analysis; Matematisk analys; Mathematical analysis; Analys;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of three papers on topics related to optimization and estimation of solutions of Riccati equations. We are concerned with the initial value problemf'+f² =r², f(0)=0, (*)and we want to optimiseF(T)= ∫0T f(t) dtwhen r is allowed to vary over the set R(φ ) of all equimeasurable rearrangements of a decreasing function φ and its convex hull CR(φ). Abstract : In this thesis we study numerical methods for evolution problems in multiphysics. The term multiphysics is commonly used to describe physical phenomena that involve several interacting models. Typically, such problems result in coupled systems of partial differential equations. 4. 4. Applications of Integer Quadratic Programming in Control and Communication

    Author : Daniel Axehill; Anders Hansson; Anders Rantzer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Optimization; Model Predictive Control; CDMA; Quadratic Programming; Mixed Integer Quadratic Programming; Dual active set methods; Riccati recursion; Branch and bound; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Abstract : The main topic of this thesis is integer quadratic programming with applications to problems arising in the areas of automatic control and communication. One of the most widespread modern control principles is the discrete-time method Model Predictive Control (MPC). READ MORE

  5. 5. Structure-Exploiting Numerical Algorithms for Optimal Control

    Author : Isak Nielsen; Daniel Axehill; Anders Hansson; Eric Kerrigan; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Numerical Optimal Control; Model Predictive Control; Riccati Recursion; Parallel Algorithms; Low-Rank Modifications; Parametric Programming; Optimization; Explicit MPC; Moving Horizon Estimation; Partial Condensing;

    Abstract : Numerical algorithms for efficiently solving optimal control problems are important for commonly used advanced control strategies, such as model predictive control (MPC), but can also be useful for advanced estimation techniques, such as moving horizon estimation (MHE). In MPC, the control input is computed by solving a constrained finite-time optimal control (CFTOC) problem on-line, and in MHE the estimated states are obtained by solving an optimization problem that often can be formulated as a CFTOC problem.
