  2. 2. On Caries Risk Profiles Using Cariogram and Caries Prevention with Fluoridated Toothpaste in Orthodontic Patients

    Author : Anas H Al Mulla; Dowen Birkhed; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Caries lesions. Caries model. Caries risk. Cariogram. QLF. Orthodontic bands. Saudi Arabia. Slurry rinsing. Toothbrushing. Toothpaste. Toothpaste technique. Water rinsin;

    Abstract : Objective. The aims of this thesis were to: 1) analyse caries-related factors shortly after orthodontic treatment, 2) demonstrate the usefulness of the Cariogram by presenting orthodontic patients with different caries-risk profiles, 3) compare two different toothpastes with different post brushing techniques using an in situ caries model with orthodontic bands, and 4) test the hypothesis that toothpaste slurry rinsing, combined with some other simple post-brushing advice (in this thesis called the “modified F toothpaste technique, MFTT“), would reduce the number of decayed and filled tooth surfaces (DFS) in a 2-year randomised clinical trial in orthodontic patients. 3. 3. Loss Minimisation in Dynamic Food Processes

    Author : Marcus Henningsson; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Livsmedelsteknik; Food and drink technology; Teknik; Technological sciences; CFD; dual plane ERT; ERT; waste minimisation; loss; milk; density; sensor fusion; multivariate calibration; electrical resistance tomography; dairy process; turbidity; conductivity;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the present work was to reduce losses during product changes or during rinsing in continuous food processing, with particular attention to dairy plants. The concept of sensor fusion of common process instruments was implemented as a tool to monitor the milk and fat concentrations in a dairy processing line. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fouling and cleaning of solid surfaces. The influence of surface characteristics and operating conditions

    Author : Camilla Karlsson; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; ellipsometry; sodium hydroxide; anionic surfactant; betalactoglobulin; protein; stainless steel; hydrophilic surface; hydrophobic surface; cleaning; adsorption; fouling; Livsmedelsteknik; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : The severe fouling common in food processing puts high demands on equipment cleaning. Adsorption of the protein betalactoglobulin to solid surfaces and its subsequent removal were followed using in situ ellipsometry. Most experiments were done in a stirred cuvette. Additionally, a flow cell was designed, which was employed in some work. READ MORE

  5. 5. Salvadora persica (MISWAK) : an effective way of killing oral pathogens

    Author : Abier Hamed Sofrata; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Miswak; Salvadora persica; chewing stick; traditional medicine; gingivitis; periodontitis; dental plaque; plaque pH; salivary flow; acid production; microelectrodes; oral hygiene; subgingival microbiota; antibacterial agent; isothiocyanate; chromatography; Porphyromonas gingivalis; Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans;

    Abstract : Mechanical removal of dental plaque is regarded as an effective means of controlling the progression of dental caries and periodontal disease. The habitual use of chewing sticks (Miswak) as an oral hygiene method is still wildly spread throughout parts of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. READ MORE
