6. Robust Design Methodology - a treatise on the gap between principles and tools
Abstract : Today many companies are struggling with issues related to unwanted variation. Even though Robust Design Methodology is a suitable means of counteracting such issues there are rather few industrial applications documented. READ MORE

7. Life Cycle Energy Optimisation: A multidisciplinary engineering design optimisation framework for sustainable vehicle development
Abstract : This thesis explores how the systemic-level environmental footprint of light-duty vehicles could be reduced through integrative design using the Life Cycle Energy Optimisation (LCEO) methodology. This methodology aims at finding a design solution that uses a minimum amount of cumulative energy demand over the different phases of the vehicle's life cycle; while complying with a set of functional constraints, thereby avoiding any sub-optimal energy demand shifts between the vehicle's different life cycle phases. 8. Using engineering design methodology for robust product development
Abstract : Many successful industrial companies aim at improving product development in order to be competitive. This thesis is intended to make a contribution to the work of fulfilling this goal.Rapid advances in technology in recent years have set new demands on product development. READ MORE

9. Quasi-analytical Modelling and Optimisation Techniques for Transport Aircraft Design
Abstract : The research work presented here focuses on the subject oftransport aircraft design at the pre-design or conceptuallevel. The primary topics addressed are: (1) generation of avast array of new quasi-analytical expressions to permit aconceptual treatment of commercial and business transportaircraft with adequate sensitivity for more advanced tradestudies; (2) review and adoption of a method to predictstability and control characteristics (using the Mitchellmethod); (3) a study of the relative merits between variousmethods in facilitating an expedient and robust constrainedmulti-objective optimisation result within the context oftraditional conceptual design problems (Genetic Algorithms andNelder-Mead Simplex search); (4) creation of a software packageas a new and unique conceptual tool that permits the generationof design proposals in an accurate yet expeditious manner; and,(5) practical demonstration of the new conceptual designsoftware package by undertaking some actual aircraft designproposals. 10. Practical Optimal Experimental Design in Drug Development and Drug Treatment using Nonlinear Mixed Effects Models
Abstract : The cost of releasing a new drug on the market has increased rapidly in the last decade. The reasons for this increase vary with the drug, but the need to make correct decisions earlier in the drug development process and to maximize the information gained throughout the process is evident.
