  1. 11. Design for Producibility in Fabricated Aerospace Components - A framework for predicting and controlling geometrical variation and weld quality defects during multidisciplinary design

    Author : Julia Madrid; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Quality Assurance; Welding; Aerospace; Design for Producibility; Welding simulation; Variation Management; Design for Manufacturing; robust design;

    Abstract : In the aerospace industry, weight reduction has been one of the key factors in making aircraft more fuel efficient in order to satisfy environmental demands and increase competitiveness. One strategy adopted by aircraft component suppliers to reduce weight has been fabrication, in which small cast or forged parts are welded together into a final shape. READ MORE

  2. 12. Aeroelastic Concepts for Flexible Wing Structures

    Author : Sebastian Heinze; Ulf Ringertz; Bengt Winzell; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; active aeroelasticity; flexible wings; aeroelastic control; design; experiments; testing; analysis; robust; uncertainty; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis summarizes investigations performed within design, analysis and experimental evaluation of flexible aircraft structures. Not only the problems, but rather the opportunities related to aeroelasticity are discussed. READ MORE

  3. 13. Design of concrete pavements : design criteria for plain and lean concrete

    Author : Johan Söderqvist; Johan Silfwerbrand; Anders Lenngren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : New road infrastructure projects are important and constitute of large investments that have to serve the society for a long time. The investments have to be durable at the lowest life cycle cost and the pavements have to sustain loads from increasing traffic intensity and heavy traffic loads. READ MORE

  4. 14. Quasi-analytical Modelling and Optimisation Techniques for Transport Aircraft Design

    Author : Askin T. Isikveren; KTH; []
    Keywords : aircraft; conceptual; design; specifications; atmosphere; geometry; weight; aerodyanmics; propulsion; operational performance; stability and control; constrained multi-objective optimisation; computer aided design; regional; business; high-transonic; ;

    Abstract : The research work presented here focuses on the subject oftransport aircraft design at the pre-design or conceptuallevel. The primary topics addressed are: (1) generation of avast array of new quasi-analytical expressions to permit aconceptual treatment of commercial and business transportaircraft with adequate sensitivity for more advanced tradestudies; (2) review and adoption of a method to predictstability and control characteristics (using the Mitchellmethod); (3) a study of the relative merits between variousmethods in facilitating an expedient and robust constrainedmulti-objective optimisation result within the context oftraditional conceptual design problems (Genetic Algorithms andNelder-Mead Simplex search); (4) creation of a software packageas a new and unique conceptual tool that permits the generationof design proposals in an accurate yet expeditious manner; and,(5) practical demonstration of the new conceptual designsoftware package by undertaking some actual aircraft designproposals. 5. 15. Robust Transceiver Design and Waveform Synthesis for Wideband MIMO Radar

    Author : Marie Ström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wideband radar; Robust analysis; Interference; Waveform synthesis; Transmit–receive filter design; MIMO radar;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the problem of designing and synthesizing waveforms that are optimal, both in a signal-to-noise-and-interference ratio (SNIR), and in a system hardware design perspective, i.e., to synthesize time domain waveforms with a low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), or even constant modulus.
