1. Rock Mechanical Consequences of Refrigeration. A Study Based on a Pilot Scale Rock Cavern
Abstract : The deformation of a rock mass due to temperature decrease below freezing is very complex, since many factors are involved; thermal strain, strain due to stress change, stress re-distribution, ice formation and the temperature dependency of rock mechanical and thermo-physical properties. The objective of this study was to achieve a better understanding of the rock mass response to thermo-mechanical loading when storing low temperature products in rock caverns excavated in hard crystalline rock masses. 2. Modeling aspects of reliability-based design of lined rock caverns
Abstract : The storage of large quantities of hydrogen gas in underground lined rock caverns (LRCs) could contribute to an efficient supply of fossil-free energy. The consequences of failure of such storage can be catastrophic, so representative predictive models and a small probability of failure are needed for the LRC design. READ MORE

3. Cavern wall design principles
Abstract : This licentiate thesis deals with the design of lined rockcaverns used for the storage of gas under high pressures (20-25MPa). This storage technique has been developed in Swedenduring the last 20 years. The concept has been named LRC (LinedRock Cavern). READ MORE

4. Thermo-Mechanical Behaviour of Refrigerated Caverns in Hard Rock
Abstract : For almost 4 decades, underground caverns in hard rock have been used to store liquefied petroleum gases (LPG) and refrigerated products, such as foods and chemicals. The design of such facilities has, however, been founded on relatively limited knowledge of the reaction of rock masses to cooling. READ MORE

5. Water Curtains in Gas Storage. An Experimental Study
Abstract : Water curtains have been used for more than 20 years to prevent the escape of gas from caverns excavated in rock. Today, the use of water curtains appears to be increasing, with applications in various forms of storage caverns. READ MORE
