  1. 1. Visual and magnetic detection of antimicrobial resistance genes using nanoparticles and isothermal amplification

    Author : Darío Sánchez Martín; Teresa Zardán Gómez de la Torre; Maria Strömme; Mahiar Hamedi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; DNA amplification; isothermal amplification; visual detection; nanoparticles; VAM-NDA; rolling circle amplification; phi29 DNA polymerase; padlock probes.; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot nanoteknologi och funktionella material; Engineering Science with specialization in Nanotechnology and Functional Materials;

    Abstract : Antibiotic resistance is becoming an increasing concern, necessitating new ways to diagnose and treat it rapidly and accurately. One proposed solution is the use of nucleic acid amplification tests, capable of detecting resistance in just a few hours, as opposed to the several days that traditional testing methods may require. Abstract : Padlock probes are useful in a variety of genetic applications, some of which require that the probes are amplified in order to generate detectable signals. Two general padlock amplification methods, RCA and PCR, are discussed in this thesis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Differential Magnetic Biosensor using HTS SQUID Gradiometer

    Author : Sobhan Sepehri; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high-Tc SQUID; magnetic bioassay; diagnostics; RCA; microfluidics; magnetic nanoparticle; point-of-care; rolling circle amplification; differential ac susceptibility; biosensor;

    Abstract : A fundamental tool for containing an epidemic outbreak and mitigating its effects is early diagnostics. Currently, most of the diagnostic tests are performed by trained staff in centralized labs, which are expensive and time-consuming to establish and operate. Lack of access to such facilities could have devastating effects. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ultra-sensitive measurements of magnetically labelled RCA products in a microfluidic channel using a high-Tc SQUID

    Author : Sobhan Sepehri; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : The development of a nucleic acid (deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA)) bioassay based on magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with a high-Tc superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) gradiometer as a magnetic readout is described. The specific binding of the MNPs to the target DNA molecules changes the MNPs size distribution and, therefore, the relaxation dynamics and is measured by magnetic ac susceptometry. READ MORE
