  1. 1. Friction and wear in rolling and sliding contacts

    Author : Christer Spiegelberg; Sören Andersson; Roland Larsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tribology; friction; wear; rolling and sliding contacts; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Mechanical products are always expected to perform better, last longer, be more environmentally friendly and preferably cost less. Rolling and sliding contacts are found in many mechanical products, and friction and wear in the contacts have a direct impact on the products’ ability to meet these demands. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the influence of surface roughness on rolling contact forces

    Author : Oskar Lundberg; Ines Lopez Arteaga; Leif Kari; Matthias Kröger; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rolling contact; Surface roughness; Contact forces; Contact modelling; Friction; Road; Asphalt; Substrate; Test-rig; Sliding; Stick–slip; Tyre; Rubber; Tread-block; Wheel–rail interaction; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : Road vehicle tyres, railway wheels and ball bearings all generate rolling contact forces which are transferred within a finite area of contact between the rolling element and the substrate. Either it is visible or not for the human eye, a certain degree of roughness is always present on the contacting surfaces and it influences the generation of both vertical and lateral contactforces. 3. 3. Interface modeling - friction and wear

    Author : Anders Söderberg; Sören Andersson; Norbert Huber; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Interfaces; Models; Simulation; Friction; Wear; Other engineering mechanics; Övrig teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : The general trend toward increased use of computer models and simulations during product development calls for accurate and reliable product models. The function of many products relies on contact interfaces between interacting components. Simulating the behavior of such products requires accurate models of both components and interfaces. 4. 4. On Rolling Variators, A study of power transmitting rolling variators when changing speed ratio

    Author : Göran Brännare; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; friction drives; traction drives; variators; traction; CVT; speed ratio change; rolling traction trnasmissions; continously variable transmissions; rolling contact drives; transmission ratio change;

    Abstract : The introduction of the concept Rolling Variators is proposed for rolling contact continuously variable transmission.A theoretical study of rolling variators when changing the speed ratio during power transmission is presented. READ MORE

  5. 5. On wear in rolling/sliding contacts

    Author : Rickard Nilsson; Ulf Olofsson; I. Sherrington; KTH; []
    Keywords : Technology; wear; rolling; sliding; contact; environment; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to increase the understanding of wear in rolling/sliding contacts such as the wheel-rail contact for railroads and the roller-washer contact for roller bearings. The Stockholm commuter train network has been the subject of papers A and B in this thesis in which the wear and surface cracks on rails has been observed for a period of three years. READ MORE
