  1. 1. Novel room temperature ferromagnetic semiconductors

    Author : Amita Gupta; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In today's information world, bits of data are processed bysemiconductor chips, and stored in the magnetic disk drives.But tomorrow's information technology may see magnetism (spin)and semiconductivity (charge) combined in one 'spintronic'device that exploits both charge and 'spin' to carry data (thebest of two worlds). Abstract : Refrigeration plays a crucial role in many different sectors and consumes about 17% of the electricity produced globally. This significant energy consumption implies large share of refrigeration in primary energy consumption and other environmental impacts. READ MORE

  4. 4. Defect Induced Room-Temperature Ferromagnetism in ZnO and MgO Thin FIlms and Device Development

    Author : Mukes Kapilashrami; Lyuba Belova; E Dan Dahlberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Room-temperature ferromagnetism; intrinsic defects; un-balanced balanced magnetron sputtering; magnetic anisotropy and photoconductivity; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the discovery of defect induced room-temperature ferromagnetism in industrially important ZnO and MgO thin films, and establishes from a systematic study, in both ZnO and MgO films, the unique phenomenon of the sequences of transitions from ferromagnetism to para-, and eventually the well known diamagnetism of the bulk as a function of film thickness. Highly oriented and high quality dense thin films of ZnO and MgO have been deposited by reactive (balanced) magnetron sputtering under different ambience conditions and deposition temperatures. 5. 5. Alloy Design for Refractory High Entropy Alloys with Better Balanced Mechanical Properties at Both Room Temperature and Elevated Temperatures

    Author : Xiaolong Li; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high temperature strength; temperature dependence of yield stress; room temperature ductility; substitutional solid solutions; oxidation resistance.; solid solution softening and hardening; Refractory high-entropy alloys RHEAs ;

    Abstract : Motivated by the desire to improve the energy efficiency of gas turbines by operating them at higher temperatures (HT), which will contribute to a more energy efficient and carbonless society, the quest for novel ultrahigh-temperature materials can never be overwhelming. High entropy alloys, the recently emerged multi-component alloys with equiatomic or close-to-equiatomic compositions, are considered highly promising as next-generation ultrahigh-temperature materials.
