  1. 1. Rotating Structure Modeling and Damping Measurements

    Author : Jia Sun; Leif Kari; Damian Vogt; Ulf Orrenius; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Acoustics; Akustik; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik; Järnvägsgruppen - Ljud och vibrationer; Järnvägsgruppen - Ljud och vibrationer;

    Abstract : The structural damping is of importance to suppress the vibration amplitude of compressor blades rotating at high angular velocity under a high cycle impact. To avoid the appearance of the high cycle fatigue (HCF), damping materials may be applied to the compressor blades. READ MORE

  2. 2. Experimental study of the rotating-disk boundary-layer flow

    Author : Shintaro Imayama; Henrik Alfredsson; Rebecca Lingwood; Benoît Pier; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluid mechanics; boundary layer; rotating disk; laminar-turbulent transition; convective instability; absolute instability; secondary instability; crossflow instability; hot-wire anemometry.;

    Abstract : Rotating-disk flow has been investigated not only as a simple model of cross flow instability to compare with swept-wing flow but also for industrial flow applications with rotating configurations. However the exact nature of laminar-turbulent transi- tion on the rotating-disk flow is still major problem and further research is required for it to be fully understood, in particular, the laminar-turbulent transition process with absolute instability. 3. 3. Measurements and Prediction of Friction Drag of Rough Surfaces

    Author : Bercelay Niebles Atencio; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PIV; RANS; Turbulent Boundary Layers; Flat Plate; Resolved CFD; Hydrodynamics; Roughness Function; Wall Functions; Rotating Disk;

    Abstract : Owing to the increased sea transportation of goods, the environmental impacts of this activity are becoming more and more important, since a ship experiences resistance that directly affects its performance and fuel consumption. The growth of marine organisms (fouling) on ship hulls increases the roughness of the hull surface, which in turn causes a rise in ship resistance with a consequent increase in fuel consumption and greenhouse emissions of up to 40%. 4. 4. Prediction of Cooling Air Flow in Electric Generators

    Author : Pirooz Moradnia; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CFD; Multiple Reference Frame; PIV; Total Pressure Measurements; Electric Generator; Experimental Measurements; 5-hole Pressure Probe Measurements; Flow Prediction; OpenFOAM;

    Abstract : The cooling air flow in hydro power electric generators is investigated experimentally and numerically. A fully predictive numerical approach is presented and validated, in which the inlet and outlet boundaries are eliminated from the computational domain. READ MORE

  5. 5. Aerothermal Investigation of an Intermediate Turbine Duct

    Author : Carlos Arroyo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flowfield measurements; heat transfer measurements.; Intermediate turbine duct;

    Abstract : Intermediate turbine ducts are used to guide the flow in turbofan engines from the short-radius high-pressure turbine to the large-radius low-pressure turbine. The demand for more efficient and silent jet engines and with a reduced environmental impact requires turbofans with increasingly higher by-pass ratios. READ MORE
