  1. 1. Beam-to-Beam Contact and Its Application to Micromechanical Simulation of Fiber Networks

    Author : Hamid Reza Motamedian; Artem Kulachenko; Umberto Perego; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fiber network; beam-to-beam contact; rotational contact; non-consistent; simulation; finite element; multiscale; microscale; micromechanics; paper; refining; beating; fine; hygroexpansion; shrinkage; drying; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis covers the topic of modeling the three-dimensional fiber net- works with the finite element method. It contains the part addressing the numerical aspects of the modeling, namely, the contact formulation and application of the developed methods to the fundamental questions such as the effect of randomness in fiber properties and effect of fines and hygroexpansion. 2. 2. Analyses of Spur and Helical Gears

    Author : Anette Andersson; Maskinelement; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vacuum technology; vibration and acoustic engineering; Maskinteknik; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; hydraulics; Teknik; Mechanical engineering; Technological sciences; misalignment; contact ratio; load distribution; transmission error; tooth contact analysis;

    Abstract : The thesis contains three papers that comprise studies of the dynamic behaviour of involute spur and helical gears, and one paper that describes a method to determine the influence of misalignment on the static helical gear tooth stress. In the first study, the influence of the contact ratio on the dynamic response of a spur gear was examined. READ MORE

  3. 3. Robust Formulations for Beam-to-Beam Contact

    Author : Hamid Reza Motamedian; Artem Kulachenko; Anders Klarbring; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structures; Finite Element Methods; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Contact between beam elements is a specific category of contact problems which was introduced by Wriggers and Zavarise in 1997 for normal contact and later extended by Zavarise and Wriggers to include tangential and frictional contact. In these works, beam elements are assumed to have rigid circular cross-sections and each pair of elements cannot have more than one contact point. READ MORE

  4. 4. Extended Computational Module for Tractive Effort at Rolling and Spinning Point Contacts

    Author : Mikael Törmänen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spin; thermal effects; Hertzian contact; continuously variable transmission; rolling resistance; speed pole; traction drive; multi-body system; efficient numerical procedure;

    Abstract : One category of mechanical systems that contains power-transferring point contacts is traction drive variators. These variators can be used in different concepts for Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVTs) and in vehicle applications, in order to achieve optimum engine operating conditions leading to improved driveability, reduced fuel consumption and an increase in overall vehicle performance.     Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rolling shear; biaxial testing; stress combination; RT-plane; moisture influence; rolling shear creep; digital image correlation; strain field; CLT connection; rotational stiffness; rullskjuvning; biaxiell undersökning; spänningskombination; RT-plan; fuktpåverkan; krypning vid rullskjuving; digital bildkorrelation; töjningsfält; KLTanslutning; rotationsstyvhet; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Abstract : Compression perpendicular to the grain (CPG) of wood is a typical loading situation in timber structures. It has been an extensively studied research topic for decades, due to the highly ductile behavior of wood under such loading, the large variations in mechanical properties, and the relevance of these properties in structural design.
