1. Seroepidemiology of vaccine-preventable and emerging RNA viruses in Rwanda
Abstract : Abstract Infectious diseases are a leading cause of death in sub-Saharan Africa, and in Rwanda diarrhea, lower respiratory and other common infections are linked to high mortality and morbidity. For children ... READ MORE

2. Epidemiological analysis of viral infections as risk factors for multiple sclerosis
Abstract : Viral childhood diseases have been implicated in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS). Swedish mass vaccination programmes resulted in radical changes in the panorama of the targeted infections. Vaccines against measles, mumps and rubella were implemented in the early 1970s. READ MORE

3. Retinal function in deaf-blind syndromes
Abstract : A variety of disorders can cause retinal degeneration and hearing impairment, and it is of great value to have an early diagnosis since there is a large variation in phenotype and prognosis both within and between the different disorders. The general aim of this thesis was to characterize the retinal function, to describe the phenotype, and – where appropriate – to relate the phenotype to genotype in patients with combined visual and hearing impairment. 4. Cis-regulatory variation and divergence in Capsella
Abstract : Cis-regulatory changes in e.g. promoters or enhancers that affect the expression of a linked focal gene have long been thought to be important for adaptation. In this thesis, I investigate the selective importance and genomic correlates of cis-regulatory variation and divergence in the genus Capsella, using massively parallel sequencing data. READ MORE

5. Evolution of Flowering Time in the Tetraploid Capsella bursa-pastoris (Brassicaceae)
Abstract : Although polyploidy is believed to be a major source of evolutionary novelty, few studies have examined the genetic basis of phenotypic variation in wild polyploids. In this thesis I have studied the genetic basis of flowering time variation in the wild tetraploid crucifer Capsella bursa-pastoris, as well as the evolutionary history of this species. READ MORE
