1. Regulation of RNA Processing in Human Papillomavirus Type 16
Abstract : Human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV-16) is the major cause of cervical cancer. HPV-16 gene expression is tightly linked to the differentiation programme of the infected epithelium. Expression of the late genes, L1 and L2, encoding the capsid proteins, is delayed until the more terminally differentiated cells. READ MORE

2. Integral Closure and Related Operations on Monomial Ideals
Abstract : The motivation for this thesis starts with the theory of Hilbert coefficients. It is a well known fact that given an ideal I the integral closure Ī can be defined as the largest ideal with the same multiplicity as I. For monomial ideals there is an alternative definition. READ MORE

3. Effect of allergen specific immunotherapy on allergic inflammation in the upper and lower airways
Abstract : Experimental allergen challenge is widely used in diagnostic practice and research in allergy, but its relationship to environmental exposures is not clarified. Both models of allergic diseases have been used in order to examine the effects of allergen specific immunotherapy (SIT). READ MORE

4. Immunological mechanisms involved in seasonal pollen allergy and allergen-specific immunotherapy
Abstract : Th1/Th2-like T-cell responses were studied by stimulating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) with allergens or antigens followed by restimulation with mitogens to induce high cytokine synthesis. Allergen-stimulation in vitro induced Th2-skewed cytokine synthesis by PBMCs from birch-pollen-allergic patients. READ MORE

5. Modulation of cytokine production by mononuclear cells in allergic inflammation. The effects of allergen exposure and anti-inflammatory agents
Abstract : In pollen-sensitized subjects, seasonal allergen exposure results in clinical allergic disease, which in affected tissues displays a morphological picture typical of chronic inflammation. The cellular responses to allergens include the production of inflammatory cytokines that can be examined in peripheral blood cells. READ MORE
