  1. 1. Photosynthetic Oxygen Evolution - EPR studies of the manganese cluster of photosystem II

    Author : Sindra Peterson Årsköld; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; S2 state; second cycle; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; S0 state; light-adaptation; pulsed EPR; methanol; relaxation; microwave power saturation; S-cycle; Oxygen-evolving complex; Water-oxidizing complex;

    Abstract : In this thesis, a new electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) signal from photosystem II is presented. The signal is shown to originate from the S0 oxidation state of the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC). READ MORE

  2. 2. The Oxygen Evolving cycle in Photosystem II studied with EPR Spectroscopy at different pH and Temperature

    Author : Susan F Morvaridi; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Kemi; Chemistry; Naturvetenskap; Temperature; Natural science; pH; EPR; S cycle; Photosystem II;

    Abstract : PSII catalyses the light-induced water splitting process which leads to electron transfer through the thylakoid membrane and formation of energy rich molecules. Several redox components including a Mn4Ca, an amino acid residueYZ, two special Chl molecules P680, two Pheo and two quinone molecules participate in this process. READ MORE

  3. 3. EPR Studies of Photosystem II : Characterizing Water Oxidizing Intermediates at Cryogenic Temperatures

    Author : Kajsa G.V. Havelius; Stenbjörn Styring; Holger Dau; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : The principles of natures own light-driven water splitting catalyst, Photosystem II (PSII), can in the future inspire us to use water as electron and proton source to generate light-driven H2 production. To mimic this challenging step, it is important to understand how the enzyme system can oxidize water. READ MORE

  4. 4. Trapping Tyrosine Z : Exploring the Relay between Photochemistry and Water Oxidation in Photosystem II

    Author : Johannes Sjöholm; Stenbjörn Styring; Fikret Mamedov; A. William Rutherford; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photosystem II; Tyrosine Z; EPR; proton-coupled electron transfer; hydrogen bond; pH;

    Abstract : Photosystem II is unique! It remains the only enzyme that can oxidize water using light as energy input. Water oxidation in photosystem II is catalyzed by the CaMn4 cluster. The electrons extracted from the CaMn4 cluster are transferred to P680+ via the tyrosine residue D1-Tyr161 (YZ). READ MORE

  5. 5. Human muscle response to sprint exercise in a gender perspective

    Author : Mona Esbjörnsson Liljedahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Anaerobic; Performance; Wingate-test; muscle biopsy; Adenine nucleotides; hormones; glycogen; type I fibres; type II fibres; fast twitch; slow twitch; muscle morphology; men; women; sprint training;

    Abstract : Anaerobic performance, muscle characteristics and acute and chronic response to sprint exercise were studied in physically active healthy women (n=35; age 24) and men (n=38; age 25). The aims of the present study were to: 1) Establish if women possess lower oxidative and glycolytic capacity, higher proportion of type I fibres and smaller type II fibre areas in relation to type I fibre areas in thigh musculature than men.
