  1. 1. Expression and function of Suppressor of zeste 12 in Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Sa Chen; Åsa Rasmuson-Lestander; Jan Larsson; Mattias Mannervik; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Epigenetics; histone; polycomb; Drosophila; Suppressor of zeste 12; Genetics; Genetik; genetik; Genetics;

    Abstract : The development of animals and plants needs a higher order of regulation of gene expression to maintain proper cell state. The mechanisms that control what, when and where a gene should (or should not) be expressed are essential for correct organism development. READ MORE

  2. 2. Materials Design from ab initio Calculations

    Author : Sa Li; Börje Johansson; Rajeev Ahuja; Gilles Hug; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; DFT; MAX; Optics; phase transition; phonon; EOS; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a theoretical study of bulk materials using ab initio methods based on the density functional theory (DFT).Crystallographic structural phase transformations and phase stability for 5f-dioxides, ABO3 perovskites, and ABO4 compounds have been extensively studied. 3. 3. Severe Hemodilution - Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Author : Valéria Perez de Sá; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; shivering; critical oxygen delivery; oxygen consumption; child; dextran; hypothermia; hemodilution; anemia; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; lactates;

    Abstract : In children, it is often desirable to minimize allogenic blood transfusion, and this thesis explores the physiology of an alternative method of managing perioperative blood loss: hemodilution with Ringer´s dextran. Methods Clinical studies: Arterial pressure, superior caval venous oxygen saturation (ScvO2) and blood lactate concentration (L) were studied during bone marrow harvesting (BMH) on 23 occasions in 19 children, 1-17 years of age, with healthy hearts and lungs. 4. 4. Occurrence and ecotoxicity of endocrine disruptor chemicals in aquatic environment and sewage treatment systems

    Author : Andre Luis de Sa Salomao; Marcia Marques; Paulo Sergio Martins Carvalho; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Endocrine disruption; Alkali-labile phosphate; Estrogen hormones; Oreochromis niloticus; Unicellular green microalgae; Additive effect; Less-than additive effect; Chronic toxicity; Natural Science; Naturvetenskap;

    Abstract : The applicability of one selected method for indirect measurement of vitellogenin (Vtg) in fish plasma based on the quantification of alkali-labile phosphates (ALP method) to assess estrogenicity in water was investigated. The ALP method applied in this investigation was originally developed with Carassius carassius (Crucian carps). READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies in general relativity and quantum mechanics

    Author : Nuno Baltazar Fogaça Barros e Sá; Marc Henneaux; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : This work approaches two different subjects in theoretical Physics: General relativity, and the geometry of the space of quantum states.Concerning the former subject we review the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations of General relatvity with particular emphasis on its description by means of tetrads and connections, either real or complex self-dual.
