  1. 1. Decision Analysis in Fire Safety Engineering - Analysing Investments in Fire Safety

    University dissertation from Department of Fire Safety Engineering and Systems Safety, Lund University

    Author : Henrik Tehler; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2003]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Safety technology; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; investment appraisal; epistemic uncertainties; fire safety; Decision analysis; risk analysis; Säkerhetsteknik;

    Abstract : The application of decision analytical methods to the evaluation of investments in fire safety was investigated, particularly with the aim of being able to suggest a method for analysing a specific investment in fire safety for a specific factory. Attention was directed above all at the handling of cases of large epistemic uncertainty regarding both probabilities and utilities, Bayesian decision theory serving as a basis for the development of the method. 3. 3. Uncertainty in Quantitative Risk Analysis - Characterisation and Methods of Treatment

    University dissertation from Fire Safety Engineering and Systems Safety

    Author : Marcus Abrahamsson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2002]

    Abstract : The fundamental problems related to uncertainty in quantitative risk analyses, used in decision making in safety-related issues (for instance, in land use planning and licensing procedures for hazardous establishments and activities) are presented and discussed, together with the different types of uncertainty that are introduced in the various stages of an analysis. A survey of methods for the practical treatment of uncertainty, with emphasis on the kind of information that is needed for the different methods, and the kind of results they produce, is also presented. 4. 4. Structural Safety Analysis of Bow-Doors

    University dissertation from Fire Safety Engineering and Systems Safety

    Author : Ulf Karlsson; [2004]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ship design; structure; safety; fatigue.; arm; IACS S8; damage; bow-door; analysis;

    Abstract : Bow-doors are one of the most vulnerable parts on a RoRo-vessel. At the same time, they are necessary for the profitability of todays RoRo-vessels.The minimum design rules for bow-door systems, stated in the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) S8, constitute the basis for the class rules. Abstract : Sjöfartsskydd bedrivs idag både av militära styrkor och civila redare. Det är inte ofarligt, men nödvändigt och viktigt. Med fokus på säkerhetshot undersöker denna avhandling hur fartyg ska förbereda sig inför potentiellt farlig verksamhet, det vill säga hur man skapar ett lämpligt riskmedvetande i förhållande till fartygsskydd.
