  1. 6. Railway Safety - Risks and Economics

    Author : Johan Bäckman; KTH; []
    Keywords : Railway safety; Risk analysis; Statistical analysis; CBA; Economics; Willingness To Pay; Risk criteria;

    Abstract : Safety analysis is a process involving several techniques.The purpose of this thesis is to test and develop methodssuitable for the safety analysis of railway risks and railwaysafety measures. Safety analysis is a process comprisingproblem identification, risk estimation, valuation of safetyand economic analysis. READ MORE

  2. 7. Integrated pedestrian safety assessment methodology

    Author : Nils Lübbe; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; assessment; driver behavior; comfort zone boundary; integrated safety; pedestrian; Forward Collision Warning; False Positive;

    Abstract : Pedestrian fatalities and injuries are a concern in many regions. Passive safety assessment is well established, and additional active safety assessment has recently emerged. However, assessment methods reflecting on the interaction between active and passive safety do not exist in regulatory or consumer testing. READ MORE

  3. 8. Towards computational models for road-user interaction: Drivers overtaking pedestrians and cyclists

    Author : Alexander Rasch; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; active safety; vulnerable road users; cyclist safety; driver models; interaction models; overtaking; Euro NCAP; driver behavior; Pedestrian safety;

    Abstract : Introduction: Crashes resulting from a failed interaction between drivers and vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians or cyclists, can lead to severe injuries or fatalities, especially after failed overtaking maneuvers on rural roads where designated refuge areas are often absent, and impact speeds high. This thesis contains two studies that shed light on driver interaction with either 1) a pedestrian or 2) a cyclist, and oncoming traffic while overtaking. READ MORE

  4. 9. Fire safety design of road tunnels

    Author : Jonatan Gehandler; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Brandsäkerhet; vägtunnlar; design; Riskbedömning; Road tunnel fire safety; Fire safety engineering; design framework; risk evaluation;

    Abstract : This thesis can be described as a journey in performance-based fire safety design. Along the way questions such as what fire safety is, how it can be measured, whether we are posing the right questions, or engineer the best solutions, have arisen. READ MORE

  5. 10. Forecasting Indian Road Traffic Casualties: Guidance to Prioritize Road Safety Technologies and Regulations

    Author : Pradeep Puthan Pisharam; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; effectiveness; safety benefit; Accidents; future crashes; vision zero; assessment; evaluation; crash; ADAS;

    Abstract : India accounts for 11% (nearly 150,000) of global road traffic deaths and its fatality rate is 22.6 per 100,000 people, almost three times higher than that of the European region. India is committed to reducing fatalities and has signed the Stockholm declaration to halve the fatalities by 2030. READ MORE
