    Abstract : This dissertation defines a number of new concepts, such as pop-up mosque, social media adhan, non-Muslim Islam, and warping, to give a detailed description how the Mariam Mosque (with female imams) was established and the kind of phenomenon it is. The latter concept (warping) plays an important role as the dissertation argues that, while Islams may be presented in a certain way, obeying rules such as scriptural accountability and claims of continuity with tradition, these are merely the form Islams take in spaces structured by power.
