1. Gotta survey somebody : Methodological challenges in population studies of older people
Abstract : Conducting representative surveys of older people is challenging. This thesis aims to analyze a) the characteristics of individuals at risk of being underrepresented in surveys of older people, b) the systematic errors likely to occur as a result of these selections, and c) whether these systematic errors can be minimized by weighting adjustments. 2. Essays on Sample Surveys : Design and Estimation
Abstract : Sampling is a core stage in every survey. A sampling design carefully elaborated may imply not only a more accurate estimation of the parameters of interest, but also a reduction in the required sample size in a study. In this thesis we consider two particular but connected subjects. READ MORE

3. Survey models for a vehicle speed survey
Abstract : The impact of some errors, associated with a road traffic survey, is examined. The survey aims at evaluating efforts to reduce the speeds on Swedish roads. It covers both state and urban roads, but we consider only the latter. From these roads, observational sites are selected by a three-stage sampling procedure. READ MORE

4. Calibration Adjustment for Nonresponse in Sample Surveys
Abstract : In this thesis, we discuss calibration estimation in the presence of nonresponse with a focus on the linear calibration estimator and the propensity calibration estimator, along with the use of different levels of auxiliary information, that is, sample and population levels. This is a fourpapers- based thesis, two of which discuss estimation in two steps. READ MORE

5. Estimating Interviewer Effects in Sample Surveys : Some Contributions
Abstract : This thesis focuses on measurement errors that could be ascribed to the interviewers. To study interviewer variability a measurement error model is formulated which makes a clear distinction between three sources of randomness: the sample selection, interviewer assignment, and interviewing.
