  1. 6. Strength of Sandwich Panels Loaded in In-plane Compression

    Author : Anders Lindström; Dan Zenkert; Stefan Hallström; Per-Lennart Larsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sandwich; in-plane compression; energy absorption; debond; postbuckling; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : The use of composite materials in vehicle structures could reduce the weight and thereby the fuel consumption of vehicles. As the road safety of the vehicles must be ensured, it is vital that the energy absorbing capability of the composite materials are similar to or better than the commonly used steel structures. 2. 7. Structural Design of Laser-Welded Sandwich Panels for Marine Applications

    Author : Hans Kolsters; KTH; []
    Keywords : Sandwich; Laser welding; Web; Core; Stiffness; Elastic Buckling; Ultimate strength; Finite element analysis; Mechanical testing; Optimisation.;

    Abstract : In shipbuilding the replacement of stiffened platestructures by laser-welded sandwich panels offers considerableadvantages for production as well as vessel operation. In viewof reduced weight and space requirements an area of particularinterest is the incorporation of an adhesively bonded core bywhich the stiffness and strength can be substantiallyincreased, and thermal-acoustic insulation can be integrated. 3. 8. Foam Core Materials for High Performance Sandwich Constructions: Preparation, Testing and Properties

    Author : Mikael Danielsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; IPN; core material; low temperature; polyurea; polyethersulfone; gradient structure; foam; PVC; sandwich; waste; fire; smoke; toxicity; mechanical properties; Inter Penetrating Polymer Network; dynamic properties; high temperature;

    Abstract : The basic task for foams used as core materials in sandwich constructions is to separate the skin layers in order to enhance stiffness with little contribution to the total weight. However, modern design in sandwich technology require that core materials contribute to the perfor-mance with specific mechanical and physical properties. READ MORE

  4. 9. Vibration of sandwich beams

    Author : Daniel Backström; Anders Nilsson; Goran Pavic; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Acoustics; Akustik;

    Abstract : Some aspects and properties of the lateral vibration of sandwich beams are investigated, including the concept of apparent bending stiffness and shear modulus, allowing the sandwich beam dynamics to be approximately described by classical beam theory. A sixth order beam model is derived including boundary conditions, and the free and forced response of some beam configurations analyzed. READ MORE

  5. 10. Damage Tolerance of Impacted Composite Sandwich Structures

    Author : Moeen ud din Saeed Rajput; Malin Åkermo; Stefan Hallström; Magnus Burman; Christian Berggreen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; composite sandwich; cellular; polymer; material characterization; modulus; non-crimp fabric; low velocity impact; vibration; uncertainty analysis; drop-weight impact; fractography; barely visible impact damage; X-ray microtomography; compression-after-impact; bending-after-impact; high speed image processing; damage resistance; damage tolerance; Aerospace Engineering; Flyg- och rymdteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with damage tolerance of impacted sandwich structures for load bearing applications. Composite sandwich structures find wide application as lightweight solutions in aerospace components, since weight reduction and less fuel emissions are primary concerns for aircraft manufactures.
