16. Miniaturized Multifunctional System Architecture for Satellites and Robotics
Abstract : This thesis describes and evaluates the design of nanospacecraft based on advanced multifunctional microsystems building blocks. These systems bring substantial improvements of the performance of nanosatellites and enable new space exploration, e.g. interplanetary science missions using minute space probes. READ MORE

17. Reliable and Efficient Distributed Machine Learning
Abstract : With the ever-increasing penetration and proliferation of various smart Internet of Things (IoT) applications, machine learning (ML) is envisioned to be a key technique for big-data-driven modelling and analysis. Since massive data generated from these IoT devices are commonly collected and stored in a distributed manner, ML at the networks, e.g. READ MORE

18. Optics for Earth Observation Instruments
Abstract : The optical system is an essential part of every remote sensing instrument used for detecting electromagnetic waves. Careful design, fabrication and characterization is therefore crucial, especially for satellite-borne missions where the possibility of post-launch repairs is highly limited. READ MORE

19. Double Inner-Shell Vacancies in Molecules
Abstract : Molecular electronic states possessing a double core-vacancy, referred to as double-core-hole (DCH) states, were predicted more than thirty years ago, to have interesting properties, which would allow one to probe matter in a much more detailed way compared to conventional single core-vacancy techniques. Though DCH states are characterized by low cross-sections compared to the dominant single-core-hole (SCH) states, which implies experimental challenges, the development of third generation synchrotron radiation (SR) facilities and X-ray free electron lasers (XFEL), in combination with advanced spectroscopy techniques, resulted recently in a significant number of scientific works reporting on the observation of different types of DCH states. 20. GPS Meteorology: With Focus On Climate Application
Abstract : The vital role of water vapour in the Earth’s climate system requires measurements of the atmospheric Integrated Water Vapour (IWV) with a long-term stability and a high accuracy. This work focuses on using the Global Positioning System (GPS) to provide IWV estimates for climate applications. READ MORE
