  1. 11. Influence of peat addition to biomass pellets on combustion characteristics in residential appliances

    Author : Ida-Linn Näzelius; Markus Broström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : The biomass pellet consumption, both in the industry and in residential appliances, has increased during the latest years and this is expected to continue. In order to handle the demand, more ash rich (>0,5 wt-%) raw materials have been introduced as energy wood and other forest based fuels. READ MORE

  2. 12. Rapid measurements of the moisture content in biofuel

    Author : Jenny Nyström; Erik Dahlquist; Stefan Backa; Eva Thorin; Bo Franzon; Clarke Topp; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : radiofrequency measurement; moisture content measurement; fuel characterization; biofuel; time domain measurement; Bulk measurement; Multivariate data analysis;

    Abstract : An increasing number of power plants in Scandinavia are beginning to use biofuel instead of coal or oil. The material in the new fuel is a mixture of woodchips, mostly Pine, Spruce and Salix, bark, GROT (tops and branches from felling waste) and sawdust from sawmills. It is heterogeneous, having a moisture content varying from 15% up to 65%. READ MORE

  3. 13. Particle Emissions from District Heating Units Operating on Solid Biofuels

    Author : Aneta Wierzbicka; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; district heating; particle emissions; biomass combustion;

    Abstract : With the increasing interest in the use of biofuels for heat and energy generation there is a growing concern about emissions from their combustion. It has been shown that biofuel furnaces emit relatively high quantities of particulate matter in comparison to natural gas and light fuel oil furnaces. READ MORE

  4. 14. A Study of Biomass Combustion Problems and the Selective Catalytic Oxidation of Ammonia

    Author : Göran Olofsson; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Energy research; Reaction mechanism; Ammonia degradation; Pt CuO Al2O3 Catalysts; SCO; Selective Catalytic Oxidation; Catalytic hot gas cleaning; Bed agglomeration; NOx emissions; Fluidised bed; Biomass combustion; Biogas; Energiforskning;

    Abstract : Increasing awareness of the need of reducing CO2, NOx and SOx emissions from combustion systems has led to a strong interest in biomass as a fuel source. Using it in combination with fluidised bed combustion technology can lead to a lowering of NOx emissions to the atmosphere. READ MORE

  5. 15. Dekkera bruxellensis – a Competitive Yeast for Ethanol Production from Conventional and Non-conventional Substrates

    Author : Johanna Blomqvist; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In the ethanol industry and research community, Saccharomyces cerevisiae is regarded as the most competitive fermentation yeast and therefore industrial yeast populations are rarely studied. This thesis investigates yeast and lactic acid bacteria (LAB) populations in a Swedish ethanol plant. READ MORE
