21. Strongly Correlated Moiré Materials
Abstract : Recent advances in materials science have established Moiré materials as a new highly tunable and versatile form of quantum matter. When two dimensional atomic layers are brought into proximity, a tiny relative twist or a slight lattice mismatch produces Moiré patterns manifested in a superlattice structure with a lattice constant that is much larger than the lattice constants of the constituent layers. 22. On Specifying and Estimating Economic Growth as a Spatial Process : Convergence, Inequality, and Migration
Abstract : This thesis includes three self-contained papers. The first paper considers the effect of geographically dependent observations on cross-sectional growth convergence and proposes a way of decomposing the level of technology taking into account geographical variation in growth rates. 23. Classical and Quantum Descriptions of Proteins, Lipids and Membranes
Abstract : In this thesis the properties of proteins and membranes are studied by molecular dynamics simulations. The subject is decomposed into parts addressing free energy calculations in proteins, mechanical inclusion models for lipid bilayers, phase transitions and structural correlations in lipid bilayers and atomistic lipid bilayer models. 24. On fracture of layered materials
Abstract : This thesis is concerned with fracture in layered bimaterials. Fracture of coatings is considered to some extent. The behaviour of cracks growing normal to bimaterial interfaces is studied with the objective to clarify conditions for crack-tip shielding and amplification. READ MORE

25. Designing metallic glasses : Alloying, properties, and degrees of freedom
Abstract : The present design rules for metallic glasses with respect to glass formation, thermal stability (resistance to crystallisation), and material properties can still be improved. A main design rule is to use thermodynamic calculations to determine the composition of eutectic points in the phase space. READ MORE
