21. Efficient Full-Scale CFD for Ship Hydrodynamics
Abstract : An efficient numerical approach for ship hydrodynamics, involving a hybrid free-surface potential flow/RANS method, is explored. The work focuses on estimating the delivered power of ships in calm water and in waves, highlighting the benefits of full-scale simulations, particularly for ships with Energy Saving Devices. 22. From torrefaction to gasification : Pilot scale studies for upgrading of biomass
Abstract : Increasing the share of biomass, preferably by replacing fossil fuels, is one way to mitigate the present climate change. Fossil coal can be directly replaced by co-combustion of coal and biomass and fossil engine fuels (gasoline and diesel) could potentially partly be replaced by synthetic renewable fuels produced via entrained flow gasification of biomass. 23. Winter browsing by moose and hares in subarctic birch forest : Scale dependency and responses to food addition
Abstract : Despite their difference in body size and morphology, the moose (Alces alces) andthe mountain hare (Lepus timidus) sustain themselves during winter on similar plantspecies and plant parts in in subarctic environments, namely apical twigs ofmountain birch (Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii). 24. Small-Scale Production of Fuel-Cell Hydrogen
Abstract : The work presented here aims at producing hydrogen for proton-exchange fuel-cell applications from hydrocarbons. This thesis describes an integrated catalytic converter comprising a steam-reforming reactor (heat of reaction supplied by catalytic combustion), a water-gas shift reactor and a preferential oxidation of carbon monoxide reactor, and the work performed on the fuel processing catalysts therein. 25. Supporting instructional improvement at scale : The role of teacher professional development programs and mathematics curriculum materials
Abstract : We are currently witnessing an increase of international interest in mathematics education, fueled partly by the growing concerns of students’ declining results, but also by changed perceptions of what mathematics students should master. In response, many initiatives have appeared in order to move away from traditional to more inquiry based approaches to teaching. READ MORE
