  1. 1. Supersymmetry vis-à-vis Observation : Dark Matter Constraints, Global Fits and Statistical Issues

    Author : Yashar Akrami; Joakim Edsjö; Lars Bergström; Roberto Trotta; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; supersymmetry; cosmology of theories beyond the Standard Model; dark matter; gamma rays; dwarf galaxies; direct detection; statistical techniques; scanning algorithms; genetic algorithms; statistical coverage; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; Cosmology; Kosmologi; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : Weak-scale supersymmetry is one of the most favoured theories beyond the Standard Model of particle physics that elegantly solves various theoretical and observational problems in both particle physics and cosmology. In this thesis, I describe the theoretical foundations of supersymmetry, issues that it can address and concrete supersymmetric models that are widely used in phenomenological studies. READ MORE

  2. 2. Segmentation of knots : a problem in 3D X-ray scanning of logs

    Author : Katarina Flood; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the possibilities of using 3D X-ray tomography to detect and segment knots in logs. In the sawmill process this should be done previously to the sawing the log into boards. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characterization of sawlogs using industrial X-ray and 3D scanning

    Author : Johan Skog; Olav Höjbö; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träteknik; Wood Technology;

    Abstract : In the Nordic countries, sawlogs are typically sorted upon arrival at the sawmill based on species and dimension. By processing batches of logs with similar size, the sawing process becomes more efficient; the need to change sawing pattern between individual logs is reduced, and the handling of sawn goods is simplified, since the number of different dimensions produced simultaneously decreases. 4. 4. Efficient utilization of sawlogs using scanning techniques and computer modelling

    Author : Anders Berglund; Arto Usenius; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träteknik; Wood Technology;

    Abstract : The main question asked of the work described in this thesis was howthe sawing of logs into sawn timber can be performed more efficientlywith respect to the choice of raw material, volume and value yield in thesawing and in the grading of the sawn timber produced.The development of industrial computed tomography scanning providesinformation about the external and internal properties of a sawlogat production speed. 5. 5. Near-field scanning optical microscopy and fractal characterization with atomic force microscopy and other methods

    Author : Anders Mannelquist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted to the development of near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) for aqueous solutions and to fractal characterization of steel surfaces with atomic force microscopy (AFM) and other methods. NSOM combines optical properties from a light microscope and the technique of scanning probe microscopy, SPM (invented in the early 1980’s). READ MORE
