6. Nanoscale Osseointegration : Characterization of Biomaterials and their Interfaces with Electron Tomography
Abstract : Bone response is one of the key determining factors in the overall success of biomaterials intended for bone regeneration and osseointegration. Understanding the formation of bone at an implant surface may lead to the improved design of biomaterials for the future. READ MORE

7. Quantitative studies of changes in microstructure and activity during ageing of supported catalysts
Abstract : Catalytic converters have substantially contributed to the improvement of air quality in populated areas in the last decades by abatement of the emission of hazardous componentssuch as CO, unburned hydrocarbons and NOx. However, due to the exposure to high temperature and different components in the exhaust gas, the performance of the catalysts degrades with time. READ MORE

8. 3D Magnetic Photonic Crystals : Synthesis and Characterization
Abstract : This thesis presents the synthesis methods and the characterizations of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles, silica spheres with Fe3O4 nanoparticles embedded, and three dimensional magnetic photonic crystals (MPCs) prepared from the spheres. The structure, material composition, magnetic and optical properties, photonic band gaps (PBGs), as well as how these properties depend on the concentration of the magnetic nanoparticles, are investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), Faraday rotation (FR) and optical spectrophotometers. 9. Pathophysiology of 5-fluorouracil induced cardiotoxicity : a clinical and experimental study
Abstract : This thesis concerns the pathophysiology of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) induced cardiotoxicity. The aim of the clinical studies was to determine whether hemorheological factors might explain 5-FU cardiotoxicity (I) and if the syndrome was associated with free radical (FR) generation and lipid peroxidation (II). 10. Growth and Characterization of Ti-Si-N Thin Films
READ MORE
