  1. 1. Resonances of Dirac Operators

    Author : Jimmy Kungsman; Wolfgang Staubach; Roman Schubert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Semiclassical analysis; Dirac operator; resonances; Poisson trace formula; scattering theory; complex absorbing potential; pseudodifferential operator; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of a summary of four papers dealing with resonances of Dirac operators on Euclidean 3-space. In Paper I we show that the Complex Absorbing Potential (CAP) method is valid in the semiclassical limit for resonances sufficiently close to the real line if the potential is smooth and compactly supported. 3. 3. Scattering on the Timoshenko Beam. Direct and Inverse Problems in the Time Domain

    Author : Dag V. J. Billger; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; integro-differential equations; wave splitting; transient wave propagation; viscoelastic damping; wave propagators; inverse problems; scattering operators; Timoshenko beam; non-uniform beams; imbedding;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the use of time domain methods for treating direct and inverse scattering problems for flexural waves on beams. The Timoshenko equation is used throughout to describe the behaviour of such waves. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies on boundary values of eigenfunctions on spaces of constant negative curvature

    Author : Pierre Bäcklund; Andreas Juhl; Andreas Strömbergsson; Genkai Zhang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyperbolic space; anti de Sitter space; spectral geometry; scattering theory; analysis on real and complex Lie groups; intertwining operators; Verma modules; analysis on homogeneous spaces; conformal differential geometry; Selberg zeta functions; Algebra; geometry and mathematical analysis; Algebra; geometri och analys;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of two papers on the spectral geometry of locally symmetric spaces of Riemannian and Lorentzian signature. Both works are concerned with the idea of relating analysis on such spaces to structures on their boundaries.The first paper is motivated by a conjecture of Patterson on the Selberg zeta function of Kleinian groups. 5. 5. Quantum scattering and interaction in graphene structures

    Author : Anna Orlof; Vladimir Kozlov; Igor Zozoulenko; Heinz Siedentop; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Since its isolation in 2004, that resulted in the Nobel Prize award in 2010, graphene has been the object of an intense interest, due to its novel physics and possible applications in electronic devices. Graphene has many properties that differ it from usual semiconductors, for example its low-energy electrons behave like massless particles. READ MORE
