16. Sedation with volatile anesthetics in cardiothoracic intensive care unit patients
Abstract : Volatile anaesthetics have been reported to provide protection against myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury. This effect has been demonstrated in experimental studies when the volatile anaesthetics were provided either before (preconditioning) or after the ischemic period (postconditioning). READ MORE

17. The return of the wolf : effects on prey, competitors and scavengers
Abstract : Apex predators may have both direct and indirect effects on other species through predation and competition. I investigated the effects of wolves (Canis lupus) on prey species, competitors (including humans) and the scavenging guild after the re-colonization by wolves of the Scandinavian Peninsula. 18. Amphiphilic Peptide Interactions with Complex Biological Membranes : Effect of peptide properties on antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects
Abstract : With increasing problem of resistance development in bacteria against conventional antibiotics, as well as problems associated with diseases either triggered or enhanced by infection, there is an urgent need to identify new types of effective therapeutics for the treatment of infectious diseases and its consequences. Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory peptides have attracted considerable interest as potential new antibiotics in this context. READ MORE

19. Endothelial Nitric Oxide in the Control of Glomerular Hemodynamics
Abstract : The afferent arteriole of the kidney is a unique vascular segment: it is the effector of the renal hemodynamic autoregulation. The use of the isolated, perfused juxtamedullary nephron preparation makes it possible to visualize the afferent arteriole while preserving its tissue surroundings and the functional integrity of the nephron. 20. In-Cylinder Fluid Flow, Fuel Preparation and Combustion in SI Engines - Application of Optical Diagnostics
Abstract : In this thesis laser-based measurements of in-cylinder flow and fuel concentrations in two stroke and direct injected four-stroke engines are presented. The major problem with the carburetted two-stroke engine is the short-circuiting of fuel that occurs during the scavenging phase. This leads to large emissions of unburned hydrocarbons. READ MORE
