  1. 1. Marine propeller optimisation tools for scenario-based design

    Author : Ioli Gypa; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine propeller design; machine learning; scenario-based design; wind propulsion; interactive optimisation; user-code interaction; cavitation nuisance;

    Abstract : The marine propulsion system is one of the most important components of a ship in order to cover the demanding operating needs of propulsion nowadays and to increase performance in a wide range of operating conditions. Marine propellers are designed with the purpose of matching the hull and machinery system, create the required thrust for the entire operational profile, and fulfil the techno-economical requirements that depend on the decision-making of several stakeholders.     Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; urbanization; planning support system; spatial dynamic model; urban land use change; spatial analysis; human-land interaction; socioeconomics; ecological systems; urban amenities; environmental impact assessment; what-if; decision-making; urbanisering; planeringsstödsystem; rumslig dynamisk modell; förändring av stadsmarkanvändning; rumslig analys; mänsklig-land interaktion; socioekonomi; ekologiska system; urbana bekvämligheter; miljökonsekvensbeskrivning; vad-om; beslutsfattande; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : As global urbanization progresses, cities worldwide are growing in size, which leads to many economic, environmental, and management challenges. Recent advancements in spatial data analysis and algorithmic geography have also led to the development of various urban model-based planning support systems (PSS) for urban planning. READ MORE

  3. 3. A Rational Exergy Management Model to Curb CO2 Emissions in the Exergy-Aware Built Environments of the Future

    Author : Siir Kilkis; Folke Björk; Bahram Moshfegh; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Exergy; CO2 emissions; built environment; buildings; energy system; scenario-based analysis; mitigation strategies; net-zero; LEED; energy transition; transition management; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : This thesis puts forth the means of a strategic approach to address a persistent problem in the energy system and in this way, to transition the built environment to a future state that is more exergy-aware to curb CO2 emissions. Such a vision is made possible by the six-fold contributions of the research work: I) An analytical model is developed, which for the first time, formulates the CO2 emissions that are compounded in the energy system as a function of the systematic failures to match the supply and demand of exergy. 4. 4. Responding to Terrorist Attacks on Rail Bound Traffic : Challenges for Inter-organizational Collaboration

    Author : Veronica Strandh; Jan Engberg; Helena Lindholm Schultz; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; crisis management; terrorism; rail bound traffic; interorganizational collaboration; disaster medicine; scenario-based planning; preparedness; response; security;

    Abstract : Contemporary terrorism is becoming increasingly indiscriminate, and rail bound traffic appears to be vulnerable and at high risk for terrorist attacks. An attack targeting a train or subway system can have enormous implications, both in terms of human suffering and long-term societal consequences. READ MORE

  5. 5. Vehicle-in-the-loop validation of autonomous cars

    Author : Angel Molina Acosta; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; backward reachability; scenario-based testing; multi-agent systems; Model Predictive Control;

    Abstract : Validation of autonomous driving (AD) cars is a difficult task because of the complexity that results from the integration of multiple systems and the variety of operating conditions. To this end, testing with real vehicles is crucial to ensure a thorough validation of AD cars. READ MORE
