  1. 1. Nano- and Micro-sized Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Materials for Analytical Application

    Author : Keiichi Yoshimatsu; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spin-coating; solid-phase extraction; composite; electrospinning; precipitation polymerisation; Enkephalin; fluorescent labelling; propranolol; nanoparticles; scintillation proximity assay; Molecular imprinting; Molecularly imprinted polymers; nanofibers; thin-film; microspheres;

    Abstract : Specific molecular recognition materials are important in analytical applications. It has been a longstanding dream for scientific explorers to realise a versatile method to generate materials that can recognize biological and chemical substance of interests. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bioassay Development for Identification of Cyclooxygenase-2 Inhibitors of Natural Origin

    Author : Therese Ringbom; Angelika Vollmar; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacognosy; Farmakognosi; Pharmacognosy; Farmakognosi; Pharmacognosy; farmakognosi;

    Abstract : To examine cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitory effects of natural compounds and structurally related compounds, a radiochemical assay for measuring inhibition of COX-2 and COX-1 catalysed prostaglandin biosynthesis was optimised. That process resulted in the development of a reliable assay for finding COX-2 inhibitors in plants, and for investigating plant constituents pertaining to the inhibition of COX-2 and COX-1. 3. 3. Antibodies and Antibody Mimics in Binding Assays

    Author : Ioana Wärnmark; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymerteknik; biopolymers; ELISA; antibody; molecularly imprinted polymer; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Metabolism; metabolism; Biokemisk teknik; Polymer technology; Biochemical technology;

    Abstract : This thesis presents development of new analytical methods using antibodies and molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) in binding assays: 1) The high specificity of antibodies and the wide variety of efficient labels make immunoassay one of the most popular analytical techniques today. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is most widely used, since the enzyme label can be used as a catalyst to provide very high signal amplification. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies on the Effects of Plant and Food Constituents on Cyclooxygenase-2 : Aspects in Inflammation and Cancer

    Author : Ulrika Huss; Pia Wuorela; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacognosy; Farmakognosi; Pharmacognosy; Farmakognosi;

    Abstract : In inflammatory events, the cyclooxygenase-2 enzyme (COX-2) catalyses prostaglandin biosynthesis. This is a process, which could possibly be affected by natural compounds including those abundant in food. Two systems have been established to enable investigations of the effects of natural compounds on COX-2. READ MORE
