  1. 1. Shun the Pun, Rescue the Rhyme? : The Dubbing and Subtitling of Language Play in Film

    Author : Thorsten Schröter; Moira Linnarud; Patrick Zabalbeascoa; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; family films; screen translation; similes; idioms; modified expressions; play with foreign words; nonce formations; play with grammar; rhymes; half-rhymes; alliteration; repetition; dubbing; subtitling; compensation; humour; language-play; wordplay; puns; metaphors; English language; Engelska språket; English; Engelska;

    Abstract : Language-play can briefly be described as the wilful manipulation of the peculiarities of a linguistic system in a way that draws attention to these peculiarities themselves, thereby causing a communicative and cognitive effect that goes beyond the conveyance of propositional meaning. Among the various phenomena answering this description are the different kinds of puns, but also more strictly form-based manipulations such as rhymes and alliteration, in addition to a host of other, sometimes even fuzzier, subcategories. 2. 2. Factors modulating tRNA biogenesis and function in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Fu Xu; Anders Byström; Marcus J. O. Johansson; Raffael Schaffrath; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Translation; tRNA biogenesis; suppressor tRNA; Elongator complex; wobble uridine modifications; SUP4; YPK9; SSD1; serine tRNA; synthetic lethality; yeast; biology; biologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Genetics; genetik;

    Abstract : Transfer RNA (tRNA) genes are transcribed by RNA polymerase III as precursors that undergo multiple processing steps to form mature tRNAs. These steps include processing of the 5’ leader and 3’ trailer sequences, addition of a 3’ CCA tail, removal of introns, and formation of modified nucleosides. READ MORE

  3. 3. On new and current treatments for Diamond-Blackfan anemia

    Author : Sara Sjögren; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Keywords : Diamond-Blackfan anemia; Erythropoiesis; Ribosome biogenesis; Heme synthesis; Glucocorticoids; p53; Globin translation; HRI; a1-microglobulin;

    Abstract : Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA) is a rare congenital disease where the patients suffer from macrocytic anemia due to reduced numbers of erythroid precursors in the bone marrow. Most patients carry mutations in ribosomal proteins, such as ribosomal protein S19 (RPS19), which causes deficient ribosome biogenesis and affects protein translation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Post-transcriptional regulation after stress in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

    Author : Daniel Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Post transcriptional regulation;

    Abstract : Post transcriptional regulation is part of the gene expression control and is important for many cellular processes. It influences how mRNAs are selected for translation, degradation or storage. In this thesis, I describe some of the known mechanisms for transcriptional regulation in S. READ MORE

  5. 5. Identification of novel modulators of protein synthesis and nucleolar biology using high throughput phenotypic screens

    Author : Alba Corman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Protein synthesis and ribosome biogenesis are fundamental steps in gene expression and constitute the most energy demanding processes in living cells. Dysregulation of these processes is associated to a variety of human disorders including cancer, metabolic diseases, immunodeficiency, neurological and developmental disorders, and physiological aging.
