  1. 1. Mesoscale Processes over the Baltic Sea

    Author : Nina Svensson; Erik Sahlée; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Søren Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boundary layer; Baltic Sea; stable conditions; low-level jet; sea breeze; boundary layer rolls; mesoscale effects; WRF; LIDAR;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to study mesoscale processes above the Baltic Sea, which is a small, semi-enclosed sea where land-sea interaction may have a large impact on the offshore conditions. It is only the last tens of years that offshore research has become more popular, and one reason for this is the increasing offshore wind energy, which poses the need for accurate estimates of wind speed and turbulence conditions in the marine environment. 2. 2. Characterization and forecasting of wind conditions over the Baltic Sea

    Author : Christoffer Hallgren; Erik Sahlée; Julie Lundquist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; forecasting; low-level jet; lidar; machine learning; mesoscale meteorology; numerical weather prediction; post-processing; reanalysis; sea breeze; turbulence; wind atlas; wind energy; wind power; Meteorologi; Meteorology;

    Abstract : To meet the increasing demand of sustainably produced electricity, the total number of installed wind turbines is rapidly increasing globally. Although onshore installations are dominating, offshore wind power is taking a greater share of the market every year. READ MORE

  3. 3. Meso-scale atmospheric flow modifications in the Baltic Sea area

    Author : Birgitta Källstrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Meteorology; meteorologi;

    Abstract : The wind climate in coastal areas often shows large local variations. For example sea-breeze circulations, internal boundary layers (IBL) and low level jets (LLJ) may contribute to more complex wind conditions than otherwise would be expected over the sea. READ MORE

  4. 4. Urban Design and Outdoor Thermal Comfort in Warm Climates. Studies in Fez and Colombo

    Author : Erik Johansson; Boende och bostadsutveckling; []

    Abstract : In many developing tropical countries, rapid urban growth leads to several problems, including increased thermal stress. This has negative consequences for people's health and well-being, and affects social and commercial outdoor activities negatively. READ MORE
