  1. 1. SEA CHANGE : Social-ecological co-evolution in Baltic Sea fisheries

    Author : Jonas Hentati-Sundberg; Henrik Österblom; Joakim Hjelm; Trevor Branch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; resilience; social-ecological systems; complex adaptive systems; fisheries; Baltic Sea; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling; Sustainability Science;

    Abstract : Sustainable management of natural resources requires an in-depth understanding of the interplay between social and ecological change. Linked social-ecological systems (SES) have been described as complex adaptive systems (CAS), which mean that they are irreducible, exhibit nonlinear dynamics, have interactions across scales and are uncertain and unpredictable. 2. 2. Local Sea Level Observations Using Reflected GNSS Signals

    Author : Johan Löfgren; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : GNSS-R; signal-to-noise ratio; sea level; GNSS; reflected signals; multipath; GPS; GLONASS; tide gauge; phase-delay;

    Abstract : Sea level rise due to global warming is predicted to have a large impact on human society, especially for populations living in coastal regions and on islands. It is therefore of great importance to monitor the sea level and to increase the understanding of the local hydrodynamic and meteorological responses to a global sea level rise. READ MORE

  3. 3. Post-Glacial History of Sea-Level and Environmental Change in the Southern Baltic Sea

    Author : Marloes Kortekaas; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kartografi; klimatologi; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; physical oceanography; meteorology; Sedimentologi; Stratigrafi; Stratigraphy; Baltic Sea; geokemi; Petrologi; mineralogi; geochemistry; mineralogy; Petrology; greigite; mineral magnetics; sea-level changes; Holocene; Littorina transgression; geomorphology; pedology; cartography; climatology; meteorologi; Geophysics; Sedimentology; Optically Stimulated Luminescence OSL ; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; Physical geography;

    Abstract : A new palaeoenvironmental record of the post-glacial history of the southern Baltic Sea (~14 ka to present) is presented. During this period, large water level and salinity changes occurred in the Baltic Basin due to opening and closing of connections to the North Atlantic. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mesoscale Processes over the Baltic Sea

    Author : Nina Svensson; Erik Sahlée; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Søren Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boundary layer; Baltic Sea; stable conditions; low-level jet; sea breeze; boundary layer rolls; mesoscale effects; WRF; LIDAR;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to study mesoscale processes above the Baltic Sea, which is a small, semi-enclosed sea where land-sea interaction may have a large impact on the offshore conditions. It is only the last tens of years that offshore research has become more popular, and one reason for this is the increasing offshore wind energy, which poses the need for accurate estimates of wind speed and turbulence conditions in the marine environment. 5. 5. Response of glaciers to climate change : Mass balance sensitivity, sea level rise and runoff

    Author : Mattias de Woul; Regine Hock; Peter Jansson; Margareta Hansson; Roger J. Braithwaite; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glacier; mass balance modelling; mass balance sensitivity; sea level rise; glacial runoff; Hofsjökull; Storglaciären; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study is to enhance our understanding of the response of glaciers to climate change. Global sea level is affected by changes in glacier ice volume, and melt-water from glaciers is a principal water source in many regions. READ MORE
