  1. 1. Effects of Seat and Seat-Belt Design on Car Occupant Response in Frontal and Rear Impacts A Study Combining Mechanical and Mathematical Modelling

    Author : Gert Nilson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; frontal impact; MADYMO; whiplash; rear impact; belt-in-seat; force-limiting; mathematical simulation; car seat; submarining;

    Abstract : The objective of the present work is to determine the potential injury-reducing benefits to car occupants in accidents of seat and seat-belt design. The main problems addressed are the risk of injury to head, neck, and upper torso in frontal impacts, and the risk of minor neck-injuries - whiplash-injuries - in rear-end collisions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Child Safety in Car Crashes

    Author : Marianne Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reconstructions; near-side; evaluations; frontal impact; rigid body; mathematical simulations; rear seat; finite elements; belt positioning booster; side impact; child safety; child seat;

    Abstract : Traffic related trauma is the most common cause of fatality and severe injury to children in developed countries. The majority of these fatalities and injuries are caused by frontal and side impacts. READ MORE

  3. 3. How Does it Feel and How is it measured? Assessing Sitting Comfort and Postures of Rear-Seated Car Passengers in Stationary and Driven Scenarios Over Time

    Author : Melina Makris; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sitting posture; sitting comfort; driving study; stationary study; seat belt fit; car comfort; car passenger; mixed-methods; seat belt comfort;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis presents the results of an empirical study focused on examining the comparative effectiveness of short stationary studies versus long driving studies in evaluating sitting postures, belt fit, and sitting comfort in cars. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, in which 19 participants experienced two different test scenarios in the rear seat of a car: a stationary scenario within an indoor garage and a driven scenario on a predefined route in regular traffic, each lasting 45 minutes. 4. 4. Seat integrated safety belts : a parametric study using finite element simulations

    Author : Anders Gavelin; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : In recent years an increasing interest has evolved concerning seat integrated safety belts in cars, regarding both 3- and 4-point belts in various configurations. One safety advantage of seat integrated safety belts appears in the case of so-called small overlap crashes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies on structural and biomechanical responses in seat integrated safety belt configurations

    Author : Anders Gavelin; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : The common 3-point safety belt usually has some anchor points on the car body. However, it is also possible to mount all anchor points on the seat structure. In general, different studies show some advantages with seat integrated safety belts. Thus, further investigations are motivated. READ MORE
